Sertoli cell testicular tumors
Urology, 1981The testicular Sertoli cell tumor is generally considered a benign tumor that can be treated by orchiectomy and close follow-up. It accounts for less than 1.5 per cent of testis tumors and may be malignant in 10 per cent of cases. Approximately 30 per cent have endocrine activity. We present 5 additional cases to the 75 previously reported in the world

There is more than a century and a half that the polarized Sertoli cell which extends from the base of the seminiferous tubule to its lumen has been identified as being a “nurse cell” for germ cells. This Sertoli cell nursing function relies on a cytosqueleton displaying all possible properties of plasticity to adapt to the cyclicity of spermatogenesis,

Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors belong to the group of sex-cord stromal tumors of the ovary. They account for less than 0,5% of all ovarian neoplasms. The majority of these tumors are benign, and almost all are localised unilaterally. Herewith, we describe an ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor in an 11-year-old girl.

Histopathology, 1990
Histological study of testicular biopsies from infertile men showing Sertoli‐cell‐only tubules due to hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, cryptorchidism, oestrogen treatment, chemotherapy or Del Castillo's syndrome, revealed four types of Sertoli cells: (1) normal adult mature cells showing an indented nucleus, grossly triangular in shape with a prominent ...

Sertoli Cell Plasma Membrane Polypeptides Involved in Spermatogenic Cell‐Sertoli Cell Adhesion
Journal of Andrology, 1992ABSTRACT: This study concerns Sertoli cell‐spermatogenic cell adhesive interactions in the seminiferous tubule. Sertoli cell surface polypeptides involved in germ cell‐Sertoli cell adhesion were identified by serological inhibition of an in vitro Sertoli‐germ cell adhesion assay.

Sertoli Cell Quiescence – New Insights
American Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 2012It is currently accepted that the Sertoli cells are proliferatively active only during the embryogenesis and early fetal development, seizing to divide after puberty, when the spermatogenic niche is prepared, and they become terminally differentiated. So far, only seasonal breeders from mammals have been reported as having season‐dependent variations ...

Large-Cell Calcifying Sertoli Cell Tumor
Journal of Urology, 1989We report on a 20-year-old man with a left testicular mass clinically believed to be a malignant neoplasm but subsequently identified as a large-cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumor. This is a rare form of Sertoli cell tumor with unique clinical and pathological features only recently described in the literature.

Germ cell-Sertoli cell interactions
Reproduction, Fertility and Development, 1990The interactions between the Sertoli cells and germ cells are progressively becoming an important part of testicular physiology. This paper explores the cytological basis for these interactions, detailing the cyclic changes in the Sertoli cells in concert with the stages of the seminiferous cycle and the nature of the blood-testis barrier.

The cytoskeleton of terminally differentiated mammalian Sertoli cells is one of the most elaborate of those that have been described for cells in tissues. Actin filaments, intermediate filaments and microtubules have distinct patterns of distribution that change during the cyclic process of spermatogenesis. Each of the three major cytoskeletal elements

Abstract Electron-microscopic studies indicate that Sertoli cells often possess the fine structure normally associated with steroid-producing tissues. In addition, a Δ 5 -3 β -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase reaction has been recorded in these cells throughout the vertebrate series.
