The prognostic strength of serum LDH and serum ferritin in children with neuroblastoma: A report from the International Neuroblastoma Risk Group (INRG) project

Pediatric Blood & Cancer, 2020
Age, MYCN status, stage, and histology have been used as neuroblastoma (NB) risk factors for decades. Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and serum ferritin are reproducible, easily obtained, and prognostic, though never used in risk stratification, except

FERRITIN IN SERUM

The Lancet, 1973
FERRITIN is the major iron storage protein in the body. Although it is found in all tissues there is little quantitative information about its distribution.

Serum ferritin in the elderly

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 1980
A two-site immunoradiometric assay for human ferritin has been developed using antibody-coated polystyrene tubes. Serum ferritin was measured in fifty-four men and women aged 73 years. The geometric mean was 166 micrograms/l for thirty-one men and 161 micrograms/l for twenty-two women. One woman was excluded from the statistical calculations.

Serum Ferritin in Pregnancy

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1978
Summary: Serum ferritin levels were measured in 200 consecutive pregnant women at their first antenatal visit; 64 (32%) were found to have levels below the normal range. The results were correlated with haemoglobin concentration, serum iron levels, gestation, parity, and social class.

Serum Ferritin in Haemodialysis

Nephron, 1982
A rapid assay for serum ferritin was performed in old and new patients undergoing regular dialysis treatment. The mean values were higher in the patients, especially the older patients, than in the controls. The normal differences in serum ferritin with age and sex were absent in the patients.

Measurement of Serum Ferritin by Radioimmunoassay [PDF]

open access: possibleAnnals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 1978
Summary A direct radioimmunoassay for ferritin in serum is described in which Bolton and Hunter reagent is used to label ferritin. The detection limit of the assay is 150 pg; 95% reference ranges were found to be 12–200 μg/l for men and 5–76 μg/l for women. Ferritin concentrations in patients with iron deficiency anaemia were found to be uniformly low

Ferritin heavy/light chain (FTH1/FTL) expression, serum ferritin levels, and their functional as well as prognostic roles in acute myeloid leukemia

European Journal of Haematology, 2018
We previously reported the prognostic value of serum ferritin in younger patients with intermediate‐risk acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The aims of this study were to confirm this finding in a larger cohort regardless of age and prognostic subgroups, to ...

SERUM FERRITIN AND AGEING

Age and Ageing, 1981
The level of serum ferritin of 226 selected subjects, aged 20 to 93, showed an age-related tendency to rise and in every age studied it was higher in males than in females. This finding is considered to be a consequence of the activation of the reticuloendothelial system and of the increase of iron storage with ageing.

A plasma ferritin is not always a serum ferritin

Pathology, 2015
Aim Ferritin is an iron-storage protein with plasma levels used as an indicator of iron deficiency. We undertook parallel testing of ferritin levels in serum and plasma to measure the range of variation and we present data for specimens from a panel of otherwise healthy volunteers.

Interaction of ferritin with serum: implications for ferritin turnover

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1984
An interaction between human and rabbit ferritins and serum was demonstrated by a coated tube binding assay, a shift in molecular size on gel filtration and by precipitation of complexes with 3.5% polyethylene glycol 6000. With polyethylene glycol and labelled ferritins, complex formation was inhibited by heating sera to 56 degrees C for 30 min and by ...
