Serum iron, serum ferritin and tissue ferritin during development in ducks
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1987Serum ferritin and tissue ferritin from kidney, heart, small intestine, spleen and liver from ducks during development from 16 to 112 days of age were measured by radioimmunoassay using rabbit anti-duck liver ferritin antibodies and goat second antibody. Serum iron concentration and tissue ferritin iron content are given.

Serum Ferritin in Refractory Anemias
Acta Haematologica, 1981The relationship between the level of erythropoiesis and iron balance was evaluated in 13 subjects with idiopathic refractory anemias. Serum ferritin levels and bone marrow iron stores were increased only in those patients with ring sideroblasts, erythroid hyperplasia and ineffective erythropoiesis.

Serum Ferritin in Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid, 1993Serum ferritin, one of the nonspecific tumor markers, was studied in 102 thyroid cancer patients, who had been thyroidectomized and were off thyroxine for 1 month, making them hypothyroid. Serum ferritin in thyroid cancer patients was not significantly different as compared to controls.

The present evidence does not suggest that serum ferritin assay is useful either for specific diagnosis or monitoring of malignant disease. A special role for acidic isoferritins in malignancy remains to be substantiated.

Serum Ferritin in an Elderly Population
Journal of Gerontology, 1979Serum ferritin was assayed by an immunoradiometric method in 82 people above 60 years of age. For comparison purposes, the same assay was performed in 71 younger normal adults. The serum ferritin distribution in the elderly had a larger variance than in the younger adults and in addition, there was a clear shift to higher values in the elderly.
