Circadian clock genes and photoperiodic diapause in the moth Sesamia nonagrioides

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2023
Insects, like most organisms, have an internal circadian clock that oscillates with a daily rhythmicity, and a timing mechanism (photoperiodic clock) that mediates seasonal events, including diapause. It has been argued that there is a connection between the two clocks.

Temperature-dependent development of Sesamia nonagrioides

Journal of Pest Science, 2013
The effect of various constant temperatures on survival, development and adult longevity of Sesamia nonagrioides Lefebvre (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was studied under laboratory conditions. The following temperatures were tested: 14, 17, 21, 25 and 31 °C.

Brain-independent development in the moth Sesamia nonagrioides

Journal of Insect Physiology, 2010
The caterpillars of Sesamia nonagrioides developing under long-day (LD) photoperiod pupate in the 5th or 6th instar whereas under short day (SD) conditions they enter diapause and undergo several extra larval molts. The diapause is terminated within 1-3 instars upon transfer of SD larvae to the LD conditions.

Response of Mythimna unipuncta Males to Components of the Sesamia nonagrioides Pheromone

Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2009
Several sympatric lepidopteran species feed on maize plants, and the different components of their species-specific female sex pheromones may play a role in attracting conspecifics and/or deter heterospecific males. In this study, we analyzed the content of Mythimna unipuncta pheromone glands and tested the response of males to components of their own ...

Phenological Model forSesamia nonagrioides(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Environmental Entomology, 2001
Abstract The development time of different stages of Sesamia nonagrioides Lefevbre was studied in the laboratory at constant temperatures in the range 10–36°C. The relationship between the developmental rate (1/d) and the temperature (°C) was determined using both linear and nonlinear (Logan type III) models.

Juvenile hormone and diapause in the Mediterranean corn borer, Sesamia nonagrioides

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1998
Juvenile hormone content of Sesamia nonagrioides larvae reared under different environmental conditions that induce diapause was studied using a bioassay on newly-emerged Tribolium confusum pupae. Two analytical methods were also used to measure JHIII content. Extracts from larvae that developed under different conditions of photoperiod and temperature
