GENETIC DIVERGENCE IN SESAMUM (Sesamum indicum L.)

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1983
Mahalanobis D analysis was employed to study the genetic diversity in 40 genotypes of sesamum and to know the relative contribution of nine characters to genetic diversity. A wide genetic diversity was noticed among the 40 types tested wherein the genotypes fell into six different clusters.

Control of Phyliody of Sesamum(Sesamum orientale L.)

MADRAS AGRICULTURAL JOURNAL, 1975
Sesamum suffers from a numbr of diseases of which phyllody is the most important one.It is transmitted in the field by the insect vector.Orosius alblcintus(Sahambi.1958:Vasudeva and Sahambi,- 1955,1957).For the control of insect vector.various insecticides have been recommended(Sahambi, 1958: Tandon and Banerjee,1968).The present studies were ...

Studies on Genetic Variability in Sesamum (Sesamum indicum L.)

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1982
Phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation, heritability (B. S) and genetic advance were assessed in 40 genotypes of sesamum (Sesamum indicum L.), the differences between the types were highly significant for all the nine characters studied, The heritability estimates for all the characters were high.

Character Association Analysis in Sesamum (Sesamum indicum L.) Grosses

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1980
in a study of F and F population of three crosses of sesamum, seed yield was observed to be positively and significantly associated with plant height, primary branches. secondry branches and capsule number. The above characters were also found to be associated among one another and showing the potentiality of these characters to be included in the ...

Phenylethanoid glycosides of Sesamum indicum

Phytochemistry, 1993
From a water extract of whole plants of Sesamum indicum, two new, and six known phenylethanoid glycosides, and three new triglycosides which had the same sugar sequence were isolated. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated from chemical and spectroscopic evidence.

Genetic studies on high lignan content in sesamum (Sesamum indicum L.)

Journal of Oilseeds Research, 2020
Lignans especially sesamin and sesamolin are secondary metabolites having therapeutic value. The sesamegermplasm were screened for lignan content. A set of four low lignan and four high lignan lines were crossed in Line x Tester mating design. Based on the evaluation of F1s, the genotype KRISHNA was identified as good combiner and the cross (JLS 57 x ...

A Study on Heterosis in Sesamum (Sesamum indicum L)

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1980
Heterosis for yield and three yield components, viz. capsules per plant, branches per plant and plant height was studied in 30 crosses involving six varieties of sesamum (Seas- mum indicum L.) Significant heterosis for yield was observed in 13 and 6 crosses over mid- and better parent respectively.

Correlation and Path-coefficient Analysis in Sesamum (Sesamum indicum L.)

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1983
Correlation and path analysis involved 40 diverse genotypes of sesamum indicated plant height, branch number, capsule number, cepsule number on main stem, 1000 seed weight, days to full maturity and oil content to be positive association with seed yield per plant. Seed number showed negative non significant association with seed yield per plant.
