Region-of-interest coding based on set partitioning in hierarchical trees

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2002
In many image coding applications, such as Web browsing, image database and telemedicine, it is useful to reconstruct only a region of interest (ROI) before the rest of the image is reconstructed. An ROI coding functionality is incorporated with the set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) algorithm (see Said and Pearlman, IEEE Trans.

A new, fast, and efficient image codec based on set partitioning in hierarchical trees

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 1996
Embedded zerotree wavelet (EZW) coding, introduced by Shapiro (see IEEE Trans. Signal Processing, vol.41, no.12, p.3445, 1993), is a very effective and computationally simple technique for image compression. We offer an alternative explanation of the principles of its operation, so that the reasons for its excellent performance can be better understood.

Wyner-Ziv Video Coding Based on Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Tree

open access: yes2006 International Conference on Image Processing, 2006
In this paper, we propose a Wyner-Ziv video coding scheme based on set-partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) which can utilizing not only the spatial and temporal correlations but also the high-order statistical correlations. Wyner-Ziv theory on source coding with side information is employed as the basic coding principle, which makes the ...

3D Color Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees

open access: yesCircuits, Systems & Signal Processing, 2008
This paper introduces the 3D color set partitioning in hierarchical trees (3D-CSPIHT) low bit rate embedded video coding scheme. The codec exploits the correlation between temporal and spatial wavelet coefficients and the interdependency between luminance and chrominance components to code color video sequences without the need for explicit bit ...

Wavelet compression of ECG signals by the set partitioning in hierarchical trees algorithm

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 2000
A wavelet electrocardiogram (ECG) data codec based on the set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) compression algorithm is proposed in this paper. The SPIHT algorithm [1] has achieved notable success in still image coding. We modified the algorithm for the one-dimensional case and applied it to compression of ECG data.
