Method for Predicting Initial Settlement

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1970
A method of analysis is developed for predicting initial settlement, i.e., settlement due to strains which occur within soil that remains at constant volume. The method employs finite element analysis and includes the following effects: (1) Stress and displacement boundary conditions; (2) soil nonlinearity, nonhomogeneity, and anisotropy; and (3 ...

Stochastic FEM in Settlement Predictions

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1981
Stochastic finite element analysis is used to predict uncertainties in total and differential settlement under a large flexible footing. The results are compared with one-dimensional stochastic solutions already in the literature. Differences between the one- and two-dimensional analyses, particularly for differential settlement, are distinct.

Settlement-time predictions in preloading

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1983
Proper planning of preloading requires time predictions that cannot be obtained reliably from laboratory oedometer tests. Time forecasts should be based on field permeability tests or test fills. The settlement versus log time curve of preloading can assume a variety of shapes, depending on the geometry and permeability of sand-silt contained within ...

Prediction of Settlement of Pile Groups

ICTIS 2013, 2013
The interactions among closely located piles are complex in super-long pile groups. Few data are available on the testing of full-scale bored pile groups in the field. To investigate the behavior of super-long bored pile groups, axial static load testing of in-situ and full-scale instrumented pile groups and single piles were performed.

Pile Testing and Settlement Prediction

Full-Scale Testing and Foundation Design, 2012
This paper describes a process by which pile load test data can be used to assist in the prediction of pile foundation settlements. In the interpretation of the load test results, the critical importance of making allowance for the load test setup and possible interaction effects is emphasized, because of the potential for over-estimation of pile ...

The prediction of settlements and heave in clays

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1980
A simple hyperbolic relationship is proposed to characterize displacements with time for structures founded in clayey soils. These considered displacements are due both to settlement and swelling. The relationship proposed has an added advantage in that the ultimate displacement has been brought within the mathematical formulations. The data published

The Uneven Settlement Cause and Settlement Prediction of Xi Ying Sluice

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
Xi Ying sluice built in Xishi River, Changzhou City, is a single span sluice with width of 6m. The chamber is pier wall structure of depressed reinforced concrete floor, when the chamber had a filling and discharging water during construction period, we found that the chamber appeared large uneven subsidence.

Settlement Prediction Using the Pressuremeter

1985
At seven projects sites where a complete geotechnical investigation had previously been completed, settlement readings of the foundations were obtained after the structures were completed. The measured settlements were compared with the settlements predicted using the results of pressuremeter tests and the pressuremeter method of predicting settlements.
