Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

The role of agricultural projects interventions on the incomes and material wealth among farming youth in Tanzania. A case study of Kilombero District

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture
Agricultural development projects play a crucial role in enhancing the livelihoods of young farmers in rural areas. This study investigated the impact of such project interventions on income levels and material wealth among youth engaged in farming in ...

Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

A case study investigation-based experimental research on transport of moisture and salinity in semi-exposed relics

open access: yesHeritage Science
Semi-exposed relics within an air–soil system often have earthworks partially buried, leading to moisture migration and substantial salt accumulation. Salt accumulation threatens relic preservation, but destructive sampling is hindered by conservation ...

Optimization Design Method of Pipe-Insulating Joints Based on Surrogate Model and Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Pipe-insulating joints are common cathodic protection devices in long-distance oil and gas pipeline infrastructures. To ensure safety, they are often designed too conservatively, resulting in large dimensions, high self-weight, and substantial costs ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

The Effect of Low-Carbon Technology on Carbon Emissions Reduction in the Building Sector: A Case Study of Xi’an, China

open access: yesBuildings
Efficient carbon reduction pathways in the building sector are critical for urban decarbonization. This study predicts urban carbon emissions and establishes models to evaluate the carbon emission reduction potential of applying building low-carbon ...
