Phenotypic characterisation of Crohn's disease severity
2015 37th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2015Crohn's disease (CD) is a highly heterogeneous disease, with great variation in patient severity. Using supervised machine learning techniques to predict severity from common laboratory and clinical measurements, we found that high levels of C-reactive protein and low levels of lymphocytes and albumin are important predictive factors.

Assessment of disease severity
2000Assessing the severity of Graves’ ophthalmopathy is deceivingly difficult. Some of the initial attempts to assess disease severity were based on the NO SPECS (Table 1; Chapter 1).1 While the idea of a simple numerical index to classify and compare disease severity is appealing, one must recall that this score is a composite of several different ...

Predicting Severity of Disease-Causing Variants
Human Mutation, 2017Most diseases, including those of genetic origin, express a continuum of severity. Clinical interventions for numerous diseases are based on the severity of the phenotype. Predicting severity due to genetic variants could facilitate diagnosis and choice of therapy.

Markers of disease severity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Pulmonary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2006Diagnosis and assessment of treatment effect in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have relied primarily on the examination of a complex set of symptoms and the use of spirometry. However, these methods require long periods of assessment to determine whether patients show clinically relevant improvements after intervention.

Assessment of disease severity and prognosis.
Clinical and experimental rheumatology, 2003The Subcommittee members initially agreed on the concepts of disease activity, damage and severity, defining severity as the total effect of disease on organ function. It was decided to start with the assessment of severity using the Medsger's severity scale. A revised version of this scale was constructed.
