Evaluation of the dose reduction effect of crystalline lens exposure in cone‐beam computed tomography with bismuth eye shield for image‐guided radiation therapy: An anthropomorphic phantom study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the dose‐exposure reduction effect of a crystalline lens with a bismuth eye shield using cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT) for head image‐guided radiation therapy. The ocular surface dose of the head phantom (THRA‐1) is defined as a crystalline lens exposure dose and is measured using a radiophotoluminescence ...

Stereotactic radiotherapy for metastatic brain tumors: A comparative analysis of dose distributions among VMAT, Helical TomoTherapy, CyberKnife, Gamma Knife, and ZAP‐X

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study evaluates various radiotherapy techniques for treating metastatic brain tumor (BT), focusing on non‐coplanar volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy (NC‐VMAT), coplanar VMAT (C‐VMAT), Helical TomoTherapy (HT), CyberKnife (CK), Gamma Knife (GK), and ZAP‐X.

An extension to the OVH concept for knowledge‐based dose volume histogram prediction in lung tumor volumetric‐modulated arc therapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Volumetric‐modulated arc therapy (VMAT) treatment planning allows a compromise between a sufficient coverage of the planning target volume (PTV) and a simultaneous sparing of organs‐at‐risk (OARs). Particularly in the case of lung tumors, deciding whether it is possible or worth spending more time on further improvements of a treatment

A Self-Occulting Accretion Disk in the SW Sex Star DW UMa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We present the ultraviolet spectrum of the SW Sex star and nova-like variable DW UMa in an optical low state, as observed with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph on board the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The data are well described by a synthetic white dwarf (WD) spectrum with T_eff = 46,000 +/- 1000 K, log g = 7.60 +/- 0.15, v*sin(i) = 370 ...

Old novae and the SW Sex phenomenon [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
From a large observing campaign, we found that nearly all non- or weakly magnetic cataclysmic variables (CVs) in the orbital period range between 2.8 and 4 hours are of SW Sex type and as such experience very high mass transfer rates. The exceptions seem to be some old novae that have periods around 3.5 h.

Sex Differences in the Temporal Recovery of Neuromuscular Function Following Resistance Training in Resistance Trained Men and Women 18 to 35 Years

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
To investigate sex differences in the temporal recovery of neuromuscular function following resistance training (RT), eleven men and eight women 18–35 years completed a single RT bout (barbell back-squats, 80 % 1RM, 5 sets × 5 reps, 25 % duty cycle, then

Sex Differences in Hamstring Flexibility Changes After Specific Warm-up

open access: yesPhysical Therapy Korea, 2023
Background: Although warm-ups before exercise are widely accepted, research on sex differences in improving hamstring flexibility is limited. Differences in the physical and physiological characteristics between males and females may result in ...
