Season of birth and variations in male reproductive health: A population‐based cohort study

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Season of birth has been associated with various later reproductive health outcomes in women, but little is known on the potential associations in men. Objectives To investigate the association between season of birth and semen characteristics, testes volume and reproductive hormone levels in young men.

The IKZF1 N159S mutation is associated with poor outcome and a distinct molecular profile in adult patients with AML

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Summary IKZF1 mutations are recurrent alterations in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), and hotspot point mutation, N159S, has recently been associated with unique gene expression and adverse risk. To better understand the molecular and clinical associations of IKZF1 N159S‐mutated AML, we performed a pooled analysis of 4136 AML patients.

DysRegNet: Patient‐specific and confounder‐aware dysregulated network inference towards precision therapeutics

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Gene regulation is frequently altered in diseases in unique and patient‐specific ways. Hence, personalised strategies have been proposed to infer patient‐specific gene‐regulatory networks. However, existing methods do not scale well because they often require recomputing the entire network per sample.

Assessment of Patients With Beta‐Lactams Positive Provocation Tests by Biomarkers of IgG‐Related Neutrophil Activation

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Allergy, EarlyView.
Neutrophil activation in beta‐lactams (BL) immediate hypersensitivity reactions (IHR). Factor component analysis of IHR biomarkers suggests an IgG‐mediated mechanism. We propose Neutrophil Elastase as a biomarker of neutrophil activation in BL IHR. ABSTRACT Background Beta‐lactams (BLs) are the predominant cause of immediate allergic reactions to drugs.

Testis‐Specific PDHA2 Is Required for Proper Meiotic Recombination and Chromosome Organisation During Spermatogenesis

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
PDHA2, a testis‐specific subunit of pyruvate dehydrogenase, is required for the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl‐CoA. Its absence results in decreased acetyl‐CoA and precursors for metabolites and energy during spermatogenesis. This results in decreased histone acetylation, defective chromosome structure and moderately reduced crossovers, ultimately ...
