Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

A Revised Sex Assessment of the Epigravettian Human Remain ST1 from San Teodoro Cave (Messina, Sicily) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Bias in skeletal sexing is well known and depends upon the completeness of the skeletal remains. The problem is very hard concerning prehistorical remains.

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Evidence for Variation in the Genetic Basis of Sex Determination in Brook Stickleback (Culaea inconstans)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
The genetic basis of sex determination is typically conserved within species if not within broader lineages. For example, within the stickleback family (Gasterosteidae), AmhY has been identified as a master sex‐determination (MSD) gene in multiple ...

Use of Lateral Teleradiography in Sex Estimation for Forensic Purposes: a Systematic Review

open access: yesActa Stomatologica Croatica
Methods that use lateral teleradiography for sex estimation need to be discussed considering their feasibility and applicability in forensic cases. Purpose: The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review about the use of lateral teleradiography

Why are Male IQ Scores More Variable? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The male female difference in the variance of quantitative traits including IQ can be accounted for by the observation of the concentration of genes involved in brain development on the X chromosome and by the mechanism of sex determination in mammals ...

Network Localization of Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fatigue is among the most common symptoms and one of the main factors determining the quality of life in multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying fatigue are not fully understood. Here we studied lesion locations and their connections in individuals with MS, aiming to identify brain networks ...

Microsatellite Data Indicate an Extreme Founder Event with a Single Female Lineage in the Parasitoid Wasp Monodontomerus obscurus

open access: yesInsects
How many founders are required for insects and other organisms to establish new populations is a fundamental question in invasion biology. We investigated the population establishment process of a parasitoid wasp, Monodontomerus sp., which was first ...

Frailty Exacerbates Disability in Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To evaluate frailty in severe progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS) and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. Methods This prospective, cross‐sectional, multicenter study enrolled a late severe PMS group requiring skilled nursing (n = 53) and an age, sex, and disease duration‐matched control PMS group (n = 53).
