Contactless in ovo sex determination of chicken eggs

open access: yes, 2017
We resume the research for contactless in ovo sex determination of the domestic chicken, which has the final aim to provide an alternative to day-old cockerels culling in the layer industry.

Epigenetics of sex determination in mammals

open access: yesReproductive Medicine and Biology, 2016
Epigenetics is the study of changes in gene function that cannot be explained by changes in DNA sequence. A mammalian body contains more than two hundred types of cells.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Some are Punished and Some are Rewarded: A Study of the Impact of Performance Pay on Job Satisfaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Using an econometric procedure that corrects for both self-selection of individuals into their preferred compensation scheme and wage endogeneity, this study investigates whether significant differences exist in the job satisfaction of individuals ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Identification of Sperm mRNA Biomarkers Associated with Sex-Determination in Korean Native Cows

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2019
This study was conducted to analyze the specific genes associated with sex-determination in Korean native cow. The highly organized spermatogenesis requires accurate spatial and temporal regulation of gene expression, which is governed by transcriptional,

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Family Structure and Reproductive Health Decision Making among the Ogu of Southwestern Nigeria: A Qualitative Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This study examines the structure of the Ogu family and its influence on reproductive health decision-making using a qualitative approach. Data were sourced through nine focus groups organized in the study area among married men and women.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
