Geometric morphometric analysis of scapula at cats and dogs [PDF]

open access: yesKafkas Universitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Dergisi
The scapula in quadrupedal mammals is a flat bone that connects the thoracic limb with the trunk above the shoulder joint. For this purpose, scapulae of 34 dogs and 23 cats were modeled using computer tomography.

Transcriptome display during tilapia sex determination and differentiation as revealed by RNA-Seq analysis

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
BackgroundThe factors determining sex in teleosts are diverse. Great efforts have been made to characterize the underlying genetic network in various species. However, only seven master sex-determining genes have been identified in teleosts.

Administration of mifepristone can induce masculinization and alter the expression of sex-related genes in Takifugu rubripes

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
Fugu (Takifugu rubripes) is a commercially important fish in aquaculture in China, Japan, and Korea. Male fugu are highly prized compared to females because the mature testes are regarded as a delicacy, thus all-male populations are preferred in ...

Lasting effects of early exposure to temperature on the gonadal transcriptome at the time of sex differentiation in the European sea bass, a fish with mixed genetic and environmental sex determination

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2015
BackgroundSex in fish is plastic and in several species can be influenced by environmental factors. In sensitive species, elevated temperatures have a masculinizing effect.

The sexual identity of adult intestinal stem cells controls organ size and plasticity

open access: yes, 2015
Sex differences in physiology and disease susceptibility are commonly attributed to developmental and/or hormonal factors, but there is increasing realization that cell-intrinsic mechanisms play important and persistent roles.
