Isoflavone supplementation reduced serum sex hormone-binding globulin concentration in postmenopausal women [PDF]

open access: yesUniversa Medicina, 2012
Introduction The bone loss that occurs with ageng in postmenopausal women is related to a decrease in serum levels of bioavailable estrogen and testosterone, which are mainly bound to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and albumin.

Menopause and vascular endothelial health: Is it all about the oestrogen?

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of mortality in women, and CVD risk is accelerated during the menopause transition. This acceleration has traditionally been attributed to the hallmark decline in oestradiol with menopause. However, the menopause transition is also characterized by changes in other sex hormones that exert effects

Testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin and risk of cardiovascular events : A report from the Outcome Reduction with an Initial Glargine Intervention trial

open access: yes, 2019
Aims: Testosterone and its binding protein sex hormone-binding globulin have been associated with cardiovascular disease and dysglycaemia. However, information on the prognostic implication in patients at high cardiovascular risk with dysglycaemia is ...

Exploring lifestyle management in polycystic ovary syndrome through implementation frameworks

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome [PMOS; previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)] is an endocrine condition affecting 10%–13% of women of reproductive age, with cardiometabolic, reproductive and psychological features. The PMOS guidelines have established recommendations for its management, which can include pharmacological,

Intramuscular pathways of maladaptation in overtraining syndrome

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend The transition from adaptive overreaching to maladaptive overtraining and mechanisms through which excessive training load can lead to performance decline. Four interconnected pathophysiological domains are highlighted: neural fatigue, involving both central and peripheral components such as altered sensory feedback and reflex ...

Comparison of Clinical, Metabolic, and Hormonal Profiles in Obese Versus Lean Women With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 6, November 2026.
This meta‐analysis of 42 studies, including 5363 women with PCOS, found that obesity was associated with more severe reproductive, androgenic, metabolic, and cardiometabolic abnormalities. Lean PCOS also carried substantial metabolic risk, supporting phenotype‐informed assessment and cardiometabolic screening regardless of BMI.

Multi-Target QSAR and Docking Study of Steroids Binding to Corticosteroid-Binding Globulin and Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin

open access: yes, 2012
The QSAR and docking studies were performed on fifty seven steroids with binding affinities for corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) and eighty four steroids with binding affinities for sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG).

Recent advances in polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, formerly polycystic ovary syndrome, with emphasis on endocrine and metabolic dysfunction and cardiovascular risk

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 300, Issue 5, Page 590-609, November 2026.
Abstract Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome, affects 10%–13% of women of reproductive age and remains underdiagnosed despite its substantial health burden. The introduction of the new PMOS nomenclature in 2026 reflects a fundamental shift in understanding the condition as a lifelong endocrine ...
