Gene Duplicates Resolving Sexual Conflict Rapidly Evolved Essential Gametogenesis Functions
Males and females have different fitness optima but share the vast majority of their genomes, causing an inherent genetic conflict between the two sexes that must be resolved to achieve maximal population fitness.

Lifestyle Behaviors and Cardiotoxic Treatment Risks in Adult Childhood Cancer Survivors
ABSTRACT Background Higher doses of anthracyclines and heart‐relevant radiotherapy increase cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. This study assessed CVD and CVD risk factors among adult childhood cancer survivors (CCSs) across cardiotoxic treatment risk groups and examined associations between lifestyle behaviors and treatment risks.

High rates of male courtship in a female-ornamented pipefish
In species with sex-specific signalling traits that appear to be ornamental (i.e. are conspicuous and with no obvious natural selection benefit), the ornamented sex typically initiates courtship and is most active in courtship.

ABSTRACT Ongoing evidence indicates increased risk of sarcopenic obesity among children and young people (CYP) with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), often beginning early in treatment, persisting into survivorship. This review evaluates current literature on body composition in CYP with ALL during and after treatment.

Sympatric speciation by sexual conflict [PDF]
It is well established that sexual conflict can drive an endless coevolutionary chase between the sexes potentially leading to genetic divergence of isolated populations and allopatric speciation. We present a simple mathematical model that shows that sexual conflict over mating rate can result in two other general regimes.

ABSTRACT Background Cyclophosphamide (CY) is associated with potentially fatal cardiotoxicity, yet no electrocardiographic indices have been established for early detection of CY‐induced cardiomyopathy. This study aimed to determine whether corrected QT interval (QTc) prolongation can predict early onset of CY‐related cardiac dysfunction in pediatric ...

Sexual violence against men and boys [PDF]
It is well known that armed conflict and sexual violence against women and girls often go hand in hand. What is less widely recognised is that armed conflict and its aftermath also bring sexual danger for men and boys.

ABSTRACT Objectives To identify predictors of chronic ITP (cITP) and to develop a model based on several machine learning (ML) methods to estimate the individual risk of chronicity at the timepoint of diagnosis. Methods We analyzed a longitudinal cohort of 944 children enrolled in the Intercontinental Cooperative immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) Study ...
