Sexual maturation in Turkish boys

open access: yesAnnals of Human Biology, 1975
Ages of onset and attainment of various stages of secondary sexual characters were assessed from cross-sectional data on 1530 city schoolboys in Istanbul, Turkey. The subjects were grouped into four socio-economic classes. Ages of onset of pubic hair (11.80 years), axillary hair (13.15 years), facial hair (14.45 years) and laryngeal development (13.37 ...

Novel expression profiles of microRNAs suggest that specific miRNAs regulate gene expression for the sexual maturation of female Schistosoma japonicum after pairing

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
BackgroundSchistosoma japonicum is one of the major causative agents of schistosomiasis. The pairing of males and females leads to female sexual maturation and maintains this mature state.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

The Relationships between Maturation, Physical Activity and Objectified Body Consciousness in the Sample of Adolescents

open access: yesBaltic Journal of Sport and Health Sciences, 2018
Research background and hypothesis. Although trends of decline in physical activity during adolescence are determined by most authors, the association of biological maturation with physical activity has not been commonly studied. It is thought that the

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Feasibility of a ctDNA multigenic panel for non‐small‐cell lung cancer early detection and disease surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Plasma‐based detection of actionable mutations is a promising approach in lung cancer management. Analysis of ctDNA with a multigene NGS panel identified TP53, KRAS, and EGFR as the most frequently altered, with TP53 and KRAS in treatment‐naïve patients and TP53 and EGFR in previously treated patients.
