Male refractory hypospadias with sexual reversal: a case report
Abstract Background Hypospadias is one of the most prevalent urogenital malformations in clinic. However, some hypospadias may have a more complex disorder of sex development. Usually, hypospadias in these patients is severe. Among them, the 46,XX male sex reversal syndrome is a rare disorder of sex development, and this

Adaptation to human populations is revealed by within-host polymorphisms in HIV-1 and hepatitis C virus [PDF]
CD8(+) cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs) perform a critical role in the immune control of viral infections, including those caused by human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and hepatitis C virus (HCV).

Sexual inactivity results in reversible reduction of LH bioavailability [PDF]
We have recently documented significantly reduced serum testosterone (T) levels in patients with erectile dysfunction (ED). To understand the mechanism of this hypotestosteronemia, which was independent of the etiology of ED, and its reversibility only in patients in whom a variety of nonhormonal therapies restored sexual activity, we measured serum ...

Prevention of SIV rectal transmission and priming of T cell responses in macaques after local pre-exposure application of tenofovir gel [PDF]
The rectum is particularly vulnerable to HIV transmission having only a single protective layer of columnar epithelium overlying tissue rich in activated lymphoid cells; thus, unprotected anal intercourse in both women and men carries a higher risk of ...

Rapid evolution of sex pheromone-producing enzyme expression in Drosophila. [PDF]
A wide range of organisms use sex pheromones to communicate with each other and to identify appropriate mating partners. While the evolution of chemical communication has been suggested to cause sexual isolation and speciation, the mechanisms that govern

On sexual behavior and sex-role reversal
Sex is not about reproduction; sex is about (re-)combination of DNA. Sex, not reproduction, always involves physical contact between two individuals; to achieve this, strategies of sexual behavior evolved. Sexual behavior, therefore, did not evolve as part of a reproductive strategy, but evolved to enable exchange of genetic material.
