Sexual Differentiation of Neuroendocrine Systems and Behavior ,

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1989
Differentiation of the reproductive system occurs in stages, with early development of the gonads and later differentiation of the brain. The physiological mechanisms that are involved in the sequence of events during sexual differentiation have not been clearly understood. However, recent technological advances have made understanding these mechanisms

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Establishing evidence criteria for implementation strategies in the US: a Delphi study for HIV services

open access: yesImplementation Science
Background There are no criteria specifically for evaluating the quality of implementation research and recommending implementation strategies likely to have impact to practitioners. We describe the development and application of the Best Practices Tool,

Determinants of Adolescent Sexual Behavior in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic Review of In-School and Out-of-School Adolescents

open access: yesPublic Health Reviews
ObjectivesThis review aims to identify the main determinants of various sexual behaviors among in-school and out-of-school adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa, using Bronfenbrenner’s ecological system theory as a framework.MethodsA systematic review with ...

Olfactory Systems in Mate Recognition and Sexual Behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Olfactory signals play an important role so that breeding efforts are synchronized with appropriate social and environmental circumstances. In this context, the mammalian olfactory system is characterized by the existence of several olfactory subsystems that have evolved to process olfactory information.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Sexual-dimorphism in human immune system aging

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Whether the immune system aging differs between men and women is barely known. Here the authors characterize gene expression, chromatin state and immune subset composition in the blood of healthy humans 22 to 93 years of age, uncovering shared as well as

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
