History of the Diagnosis of a Sexually Transmitted Disease is Linked to Normal Variation in Personality Traits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Introduction. Stable individual differences in personality traits have well-documented associations with various aspects of health. One of the health outcomes that directly depends on people's behavioral choices, and may therefore be linked to ...

A Decoy‐Receptor‐Armed Biomimetic Nanotherapeutic With Inherent Tropism for Conserved Pathogenic Macrophages for Treating Osteoarthritis and Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic doppelgänger nanosystem neutralizes extracellular inflammatory cytokines and silences intracellular pyroptosis, reprogramming pathogenic macrophages to attenuate both joint and spine degeneration. ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis (OA) and intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) are debilitating musculoskeletal disorders driven by shared ...

Spatiotemporal Multi‐Omic Mapping Reveals Liver‐Muscle Metabolic Crosstalk in Cancer Cachexia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The interactive CCAtlas platform delineates cross‐species, spatiotemporal, and sex‐specific molecular dynamics and metabolic rewiring across organs during cancer cachexia. Hepatic Gamt downregulation curtails hepatic creatine synthesis to trigger systemic creatine insufficiency and consequent skeletal muscle atrophy in LLC tumour‐bearing mice ...

Beyond Nature's Blueprint: Macrocyclic Peptides Containing Unnatural Amino Acids in Therapeutic Development

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Strategic incorporation of unnatural amino acids transforms macrocyclic peptides into drug‐like molecules capable of engaging challenging targets. These building blocks enhance stability, permeability, and bioavailability, accelerating the development of next‐generation peptide therapeutics.

Sexually transmitted infection in the elderly [PDF]

open access: yesSexually Transmitted Infections, 1998
“Age brings changes at 70 just as at 17. But you never outgrow your need for intimate love and affection.”1 There is little medical literature concerning sexually transmitted infection in the elderly. The paucity of published information may reflect the low clinical workload this population generates within genitourinary medicine (GUM) services, but ...

Microbicides for the Prevention of HPV, HIV-1, and HSV-2: Sexually Transmitted Viral Infections

open access: yes, 2017
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can be transmitted through genital-genital, oro-genital, or anogenital contacts and remain to be a public health concern worldwide.

Bone Marrow Macrophage STING Signaling is a Direct Nexus Linking Marrow Adipose Expansion to NAD+ Depletion and Osteogenic Decline in Skeletal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that during skeletal aging, bone marrow adipocyte‐derived sDPP4 primes STING signaling in macrophages. In combination with mitochondrial DNA, this signaling activates CD38 and depletes local NAD+/NMN, thereby impairing osteogenesis.

A Hepatocyte‐to‐Stellate Cell Axis Couples Alternate‐Day Fasting to Liver Fibrosis Resolution via ATG7 S‐Nitrosylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Alternate‐day fasting suppresses mitochondrial complex II assembly via SDHAF4 to upregulate hepatocyte eNOS. The resulting nitric oxide S‐nitrosylates ATG7 at C184 in hepatic stellate cells, restraining autophagic flux and preventing their profibrotic activation.
