Cytotoxic effects of β-asarone on Sf9 insect cells.
Archives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, 2019β-Asarone is the predominant component of the essential oil of rhizomes of Acorus calamus Linn ( Sweet flag). Although rhizome extracts from this plant have long been used for insect pest control, their cytotoxic effects on insect cells are not well ...

Shrimp progressively gets more attention among marine invertebrates from researchers all over the world due to it being a healthy food as well as having economic importance. There were a lot of attempts to develop a continuous cell line from shrimp but none successful.

Vip3Aa induces apoptosis in cultured Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) cells.
Toxicon, 2016The vegetative insecticidal proteins (Vip) secreted by many Bacillus thuringiensis strains during their vegetative growth stage are regarded as second generation insecticidal proteins, as they share no sequence or structural homology with known crystal insecticidal proteins (Cry) and have a broad insecticidal spectrum.

Virus-free transient protein production in Sf9 cells.
Journal of Biotechnology, 2014A method for virus-free transient gene expression from suspension-adapted Sf9 insect cells was developed with the gene of interest being expressed from a plasmid carrying the homologous region 5 enhancer (hr5) and the immediate early 1 (ie1) promoter from Autographa californica multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV).

GPCR expression using baculovirus-infected Sf9 cells.
Methods in molecular biology, 2009Expression of proteins in insect cells using recombinant baculoviruses has gained wide use in the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) community. This expression system produces high yields of functional receptor, is able to perform post-translational modifications, and is readily adaptable to large-scale culture. Here, we describe the generic methods for

Expression of Bacteriorhodopsin in Sf9 and COS-1 Cells
Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, 1997We report studies on the expression of the archaebacterial membrane protein bacteriorhodopsin in Sf9 insect cells and in COS-1 mammalian cells. In both cell systems, the apoprotein bacterio-opsin was expressed at levels of approximately 1 microgram/10(6) cells.

Ionic permeabilities induced by Bacillus thuringiensis in Sf9 cells
The Journal of Membrane Biology, 1995The effect of Bacillus thuringiensis insecticidal toxins on the monovalent cation content and intracellular pH (pHi) of individual Sf9 cells of the lepidopteran species Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm) was monitored with the fluorescent indicators potassium-binding benzofuran isophthalate (PBFI) and 2',7'-bis(carboxyethyl)-5,6-carboxyfluorescein ...

Expression of a Nonpolymerizable Actin Mutant in Sf9 Cells
Biochemistry, 2004We have succeeded in expressing actin in the baculovirus/Sf9 cell system in high yield. The wild-type (WT) actin is functionally indistinguishable from tissue-purified actin in its ability to activate ATPase activity and to support movement in an in vitro motility assay.

Purification of Recombinant p53 from Sf9 Insect Cells
2003We describe a method for purifying recombinant p53 from baculovirus infected cells in one step by anion exchange chromatography. The p53 is full-length with no flanking sequences and its expression is driven by the baculovirus polyhedron promoter. We also describe how to concentrate the p53 up to 0.9 mg/mL.

Radioresistant Sf9 insect cells display moderate resistance against cumene hydroperoxide
Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 2012Lepidopteran insect cells serve as excellent model to study stress responses and are known to display resistance against DNA damaging agents including ionizing radiation; however, limited information is available on the effects of membrane damaging agents in these cells.
