Potential of wind turbines to elicit seizures under various meteorological conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Purpose: To determine the potential risk of epileptic seizures from wind turbine shadow flicker under various meteorologic conditions. Methods: We extend a previous model to include attenuation of sunlight by the atmosphere using the libradtran radiative

A preclinical mouse model mimicking the ovarian cancer‐induced estrogen deficiency‐depression axis

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
A preclinical mouse model of ovarian cancer–related depression was developed by combining intraperitoneal tumor cell injection, ovariectomy, and chronic restraint stress. The model replicates key clinical features including estrogen deficiency, depressive‐like behaviors, and tumor progression, and provides a reliable tool for studying the endocrine ...

Evaluation of quantitative muscle MRI and an intelligent phenotyping housing system as advanced phenotyping methods in a mouse model of calpain 3‐deficient muscular dystrophy

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
We applied quantitative MRI of the lower limb and automated home‐cage phenotyping to a mouse model of calpainopathy to detect early disease changes. At 15 months, calpain 3‐deficient mice showed increased water T2 values correlating with immune cell infiltration in the soleus and gastrocnemius muscles, while assessment of motor activity revealed only ...

Auditory Hyperresponsivity in Chronic Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Pain Reprocessing Therapy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Heightened sensitivity to noxious stimulation is a hallmark of chronic pain. Emerging evidence suggests heightened unpleasantness to non‐noxious (eg, auditory) aversive stimulation also characterizes chronic pain, but its magnitude, neural mechanisms, and treatment modifiability remain unknown.

Multimodal Image Guidance in Subthalamic Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Accurate electrode placement and individual stimulation parameters influence the outcomes of subthalamic deep brain stimulation in Parkinson's disease. Neuroimaging‐based models can help evaluate how electrode placement impacts improvement, aiming to reduce the burden of programming.

Green Fuel Combustion Synthesis of CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 Nanoparticles for Photocatalytic and Antibacterial Applications

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Silver‐doped cerium oxide nanoparticles (Ag/CeO2 NPs) were synthesized using Ricinus communis seed extract as a bio‐derived fuel in a solution combustion method. The combustion reaction, carried out at 450°C with AgNO3 and (NH4)2[Ce (NO3)6] as metal precursors, produced CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 NPs.
