The Shadow Meets the Mask: Pyramid‐Based Shadow Removal
Computer Graphics Forum, 2008AbstractIn this paper we propose a novel method for detecting and removing shadows from a single image thereby obtaining a high‐quality shadow‐free image. With minimal user assistance, we first identify shadowed and lit areas on the same surface in the scene using an illumination‐invariant distance measure.

Shadows Removal by Edges Matching
2009Motion detection algorithms usually detect moving regions in a rough way; in some application contexts it could be mandatory to obtain the exact shape of such objects by removing cast shadows as well as ghosts and reflections due to variations in light conditions. To address this problem we propose an approach based on edge matching.

Object's Shadow Removal with Removal Validation
2007 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology, 2007We introduce in this paper, a shadow detection and removal method for moving objects especially for humans and vehicles. An effective method is presented for detecting and removing shadows from foreground figures. We assume that the foreground figures have been extracted from the input image by some background subtraction method.

Shadow Removal Using Bilateral Filtering
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2012In this paper, we propose a simple but effective shadow removal method using a single input image. We first derive a 2-D intrinsic image from a single RGB camera image based solely on colors, particularly chromaticity. We next present a method to recover a 3-D intrinsic image based on bilateral filtering and the 2-D intrinsic image.

Shadow Removal for Foreground Segmentation
2006Removing shadows casted by moving foreground objects in a scene is a critical problem for many vision-based applications. We propose two algorithms that examine color/texture invariants, and exploit spatial-temporal consistency to detect shadows efficiently and reliably.

Shadow Removal in Gradient Domain
2005Shadow removal is of significance in computer vision. Shadow usually adheres to texture, and it is difficult to decouple shadow from texture without any assumptions. In this paper, we suppose that the texture beneath shadow should bear the similar patterns, which makes the problem of simultaneously recovering the reflectance and light attenuation ...

Accelerated Shadow Detection and Removal Method
2019 IEEE/ACS 16th International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications (AICCSA), 2019Shadows can have a negative effect on the ability of computer vision techniques for object detection, tracking, and recognition. Therefore, ability to remove shadows and byproducts of illumination is an important problem to enable effective object recognition actions. As applications move into levels of higher information extraction and higher required

Cast shadow removing in foreground segmentation
Object recognition supported by user interaction for service robots, 2003We focus on the problem of foreground segmentation in an outdoor environment with a static TV camera. Our application context is the visual surveillance of archeological sites. In this context the main aim is to detect the presence of people and to recognize their gestures in order to identify illegal actions.

Shadow removal from natural images
Proceedings of 2010 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2010In this paper, we present a system for estimating the shadow field from a single natural image. The user of our system is provided with a broad brush to roughly specify the shadow boundary. As the user finishes drawing a stroke, the system starts to estimate the shadow field around the stroke and generates pretty accurate result even if the underlying ...

Shadow Removal in Sole Outdoor Image
2006A method of shadow removal from sole uncalibrated outdoor image is proposed. Existing approaches usually decompose the image into albedo and illumination images, in this paper, based on the mechanism of shadow generation, the occlusion factor is introduced, and the illumination image is further decomposed as the linear combination of solar irradiance ...
