Depth‐Aware Shadow Removal

Computer Graphics Forum, 2022
AbstractShadow removal from a single image is an ill‐posed problem because shadow generation is affected by the complex interactions of geometry, albedo, and illumination. Most recent deep learning‐based methods try to directly estimate the mapping between the non‐shadow and shadow image pairs to predict the shadow‐free image.

Shadow Removal Using Bilateral Filtering

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2012
In this paper, we propose a simple but effective shadow removal method using a single input image. We first derive a 2-D intrinsic image from a single RGB camera image based solely on colors, particularly chromaticity. We next present a method to recover a 3-D intrinsic image based on bilateral filtering and the 2-D intrinsic image.

Shadow Removal Based on Shadow Direction and Shadow Attributes

2006 International Conference on Computational Inteligence for Modelling Control and Automation and International Conference on Intelligent Agents Web Technologies and International Commerce (CIMCA'06), 2006
Moving shadow removal is critical for robust moving object tracking system. A shadow removal algorithm based on shadow attributes is presented in this paper. The direction of shadow is estimated first, and then shadow points are sampled based on the direction of shadow. At last the shadow attributes is calculated using the sampled shadow points.

Quaternion-based image shadow removal

The Visual Computer, 2021
Visual effects such as shadows and highlights appear in photographs due to variations in lighting conditions. Although these effects add more meaning to the images, they pose various problems to specific computer vision algorithms. Hence, the removal of shadows and highlights is often considered as a prerequisite to such algorithms. This paper presents

Shadow removal algorithm with shadow area border processing

2016 II International Young Scientists Forum on Applied Physics and Engineering (YSF), 2016
This article is devoted to shadow detection and removal algorithm for very high resolution satellite images. The shadows were identified by shadow detection index calculation and thresholding. In this work the Otsu method is applied to determine the optimal threshold of binarization.

Shadow Patching: Guided Image Completion for Shadow Removal

2019 IEEE Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision (WACV), 2019
Removing unwanted shadows is a common need in photo editing software. Previous methods handle some shadows well but perform poorly in cases with severe degradation (darker shadowing) because they rely on directly restoring the degraded data in the shadowed region.

Shadow removal using background reconstruction

2012 5th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, 2012
Shadow removal plays an important role in moving object detection and tracking. In this paper, a new shadow removal method is introduced for the accurate identification of moving objects. This method firstly uses background subtraction to detect moving objects that have casted shadows. Secondly, a background reconstruction scheme is developed to create

Strong shadow removal via patch-based shadow edge detection

2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2012
Detecting objects in shadows is a challenging task in computer vision. For example, in clear path detection application, strong shadows on the road confound the detection of the boundary between clear path and obstacles, making clear path detection algorithms less robust.

Adaptive shadow estimator for removing shadow of moving object

Computer Vision and Image Understanding, 2010
We propose an adaptive shadow estimator to detect and eliminate the shadow of a moving object while adapting to variation of illumination and the environment in an automatic manner. The proposed method discriminates between the shadow and the moving object by cascading three estimators which use the properties of chromaticity, brightness, and local ...

Shadow removal from natural images

Proceedings of 2010 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2010
In this paper, we present a system for estimating the shadow field from a single natural image. The user of our system is provided with a broad brush to roughly specify the shadow boundary. As the user finishes drawing a stroke, the system starts to estimate the shadow field around the stroke and generates pretty accurate result even if the underlying ...
