Texture-Consistent Shadow Removal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents an approach to shadow removal that preserves texture consistency between the original shadow and lit area. Illumination reduction in the shadow area not only darkens that area, but also changes the texture characteristics there.

Mitigating Cosmic Microwave Background Shadow Degradation of Tensor-to-scalar Ratio Measurements through Map-based Studies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
It has been pointed out that the spurious cosmic microwave background (CMB) B -mode polarization signals caused by the absorption of the CMB monopole component due to the Galactic interstellar matter, called the CMB shadow, degrade the accuracy of ...

Channel Attention GAN Trained With Enhanced Dataset for Single-Image Shadow Removal

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
Even today, where many deep-learning-based methods have been published, single-image shadow removal is a challenging task to achieve high accuracy. This is because the shadow changes depending on various conditions such as the target material or the ...

Regional Attention For Shadow Removal

open access: yesProceedings of the 32nd ACM International Conference on Multimedia
Shadow, as a natural consequence of light interacting with objects, plays a crucial role in shaping the aesthetics of an image, which however also impairs the content visibility and overall visual quality. Recent shadow removal approaches employ the mechanism of attention, due to its effectiveness, as a key component.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
