Determination of Shaft and Base Resistance Factors for Drilled Shaft Embedded in Rock in Korea

GeoCongress 2012, 2012
The Load Resistance Factor Design(LRFD) method was introduced about a decade ago and is being used increasingly in Korea in the geotechnical engineering field. The resistance factors suggested by AASHTO for drilled shafts also were introduced in Korea.

Analysis of shaft resistance of jacked piles in sands

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2010
AbstractIn recent years, pile jacking has become a viable alternative installation method for displacement piles. Pile jacking produces minimal noise, vibration and air pollution during installation. In addition, it is possible, at the end of jacking, to have a good estimate of the ultimate static capacity of the pile.

Side Resistance In Piles and Drilled Shafts

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2001
More than 20 years have passed since a Terzaghi Lecture focused on the topic of deep foundations. However, considerable research has been performed, and experience gained, in this subject area in the intervening period. The objective of this paper is to update the earlier references on deep foundations by summarizing results of important recent ...

The shaft resistance of axially loaded piles in clay

Géotechnique, 1982
Most design procedures for estimating pile capacities are empirical in nature, and the mechanism of load transfer from a pile to the soil is not well understood. In this Paper the mobilization of shear stress along a rough pile shaft in normally consolidated clay is considered in terms of the effective stresses acting in the clay.

Scale effect in the resistance of bossings and shaft brackets1

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1957
In general it appears that the resistance caused by well-placed appendages can be split up into frictional resistance and wave resistance. By using the Lap-Troost three-dimensional extrapolator (1), (2) it is possible to separate these two parts. When extrapolating to the actual ship, the scale-effect can then be taken into account automatically ...

Resistance electroslag cladding of small diameter shafts

Surface Engineering, 1990
The modification of a conventional resistance electroslag (RES) welding head to allow the cladding of shafts >300mm in diameter on an adapted lathe apparatus is described.

Prediction of the shaft resistance of nondisplacement piles in sand

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2012
SUMMARYUsing pile segment analysis, the mobilized shaft resistance of axially loaded nondisplacement piles in sand is investigated here. It is accepted that the shaft capacity of piles constructed in granular soils is highly influenced by the mechanical behavior of soil–structure interfaces forming adjacent the piles skin.

Shaft Resistance of Model Pile in Wet Soil

2011
The shaft resistance of smooth and rough model pile in wet sand, silt and clay under static loading is investigated experimentally in a pile-soil shaft resistance test apparatus. This apparatus allows independent control of the boundary stresses of a cylindrical soil specimen in the vertical and horizontal directions.
