Study of shaft voltage of a simplified synchronous generator

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2019
Shaft voltage is a well-known variable in the case of large turbo-generators for its potential destructive effect. However, as it is due to magnetic asymmetries, its use as a diagnosis indicator can be very interesting. Previous works were carried out to investigate the harmonic contents of this voltage in the case of some usual defects such as ...

Diagnosis of turbine generator typical faults by shaft voltage

2012 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2012
Relationships between shaft voltages and static eccentricities are studied, theoretical analysis shows that shaft voltages are induced by the ‘distorted fluxes’ caused by static eccentricities, shaft voltages mainly contain odd harmonics, the harmonic amplitudes increase under greater eccentricities.

Reduction of Inverter-Induced Shaft Voltages Using Electrostatic Shielding

2019 Southern African Universities Power Engineering Conference/Robotics and Mechatronics/Pattern Recognition Association of South Africa (SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA), 2019
The simple three-phase inverter topology that is most widely used in electrical machine drive systems produces a large, high-frequency common-mode voltage. Through capacitive coupling, a fraction of this common-mode voltage typically appears on the machine’s shaft relative to ground.

Shaft current and voltage protection relay

2014
The paper deals with the specific protection relay for all types of generators. The instrument, called Shaft Current and Voltage Protection Relay (SCVP) was developed at KONCAR – Electric Engineering Institute Inc. This instrument is a part of Institute's product line used for monitoring and diagnosis of rotating electrical machines. The most important

Converter Caused Shaft Voltages

2013
Parasitic effects caused by static frequency converters, like electromagnetic interference (EMI), may endanger the reliable operation of electrical machines up to 500 MVA. They can cause shaft voltages up to 300 Vpp, if a non optimized converter design is chosen. Shaft voltages occur in converter fed drives due to different effects [7.1-7.9].

An overview of shaft voltages and bearing currents in rotating machines

2016 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2016
Shaft voltages and associated "shaft currents" or "bearing currents" have been known since more than a century on DC and AC motors under classical line operation. More recently with the emergence of inverter drives, there has been an increase of high-frequencies bearing currents and shaft voltages creating mainly premature failure of bearings. Although

Investigation on the shaft voltage generation of large synchronous turboalternators

COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 2020
Purpose This paper aims to go deeper on the analysis of the shaft voltage of large turbogenerators. The main interest of this study is the investigation process developed. Design/methodology/approach The analysis of the shaft voltage because of several defects is based on a two-dimensional (2D) finite element modeling.

PROTECTION RELAY FOR SHAFT CURRENT AND VOLTAGE

2015
Electric power system is a backbone of contemporary technical civilization and today’s economy. Functioning is not possible without stable, uninterruptable supply of electric energy that is needed both in industry and in most areas of our private lives.

An influence of voltage sag on nonutility generator shaft torque

2000 Power Engineering Society Summer Meeting (Cat. No.00CH37134), 2002
An influence of the voltage sag on the shaft torque of the nonutility generator connecting to the utility system is investigated. During the oscillation of the generator electromagnetic torque, the mechanical shaft torque also oscillates according to the mechanical oscillation modes. In this situation, the shaft might be damaged.

Shaft voltage suppression for inverter-driven induction motor applying SHEPWM

2008 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, 2008
In order to reduce the common mode (CM) voltage and shaft voltage for induction motor driven by inverter, an Improved Selective Harmonics Elimination Pulse Width Modulation (ISHEPWM) method was proposed in this paper. First ISHEPWM eliminates certain low order components of common mode voltage (CMV) generated by inverter.
