Surfactant Supplementation to Enhance the Production of Vitamin K2 Metabolites in Shake Flask Cultures Using Escherichia sp. Mutant FM3-1709

open access: yesFood Technology and Biotechnology, 2014
The effects of the addition of various surfactants on the cell growth and production of vitamin K2 metabolites, such as intracellular menaquinone-4 (MK-4), extracellular MK-4, intracellular MK-6 and extracellular MK-6, were studied in the submerged ...

A new stoichiometric miniaturization strategy for screening of industrial microbial strains: application to cellulase hyper-producing Trichoderma reesei strains

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2012
Background During bioprocess development, secondary screening is a key step at the boundary between laboratory and industrial conditions. To ensure an effective high-throughput screening, miniaturized laboratory conditions must mimic industrial ...

Sandpile groups and the coeulerian property for random directed graphs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
We consider random directed graphs, and calculate the distribution of the cokernels of their laplacian, following the methods used by Wood. As a corollary, we show that the probability that a random digraph is coeulerian is asymptotically upper bounded by a constant around $0.43$.

Functionalized Cerium Oxide Nanoparticles Enhance Penetration into Melanoma Spheroids In Vivo through Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Melanoma cell spheroid engraftment is optimized in the chicken chorioallantoic membrane overcoming the complexity of other in vivo models. Using this model, greater penetration of cerium oxide nanoparticles (nanoceria) functionalized with heparin in spheroids is observed via enhancement of vascularization than nanoceria alone.

Normalization Before Shaking Toward Learning Symmetrically Distributed Representation Without Margin in Speech Emotion Recognition [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Regularization is crucial to the success of many practical deep learning models, in particular in a more often than not scenario where there are only a few to a moderate number of accessible training samples. In addition to weight decay, data augmentation and dropout, regularization based on multi-branch architectures, such as Shake-Shake ...

Synthetic Aspects and Characterization Needs in MOF Chemistry – from Discovery to Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Overcoming the challenges of phase discovery, synthesis optimization and scale‐up, characterization, and computational studies is essential to accelerate the large‐scale application of MOFs. Life‐cycle analyses and techno‐economic analyses need to be performed to realistically assess their potential for industrial relevance.

High‐Yield Bioproduction of Extracellular Vesicles from Stem Cell Spheroids via Millifluidic Vortex Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Stem cell spheroids, produced via a high‐throughput microfabrication technique, are transported within a vortex generated at the outlet channels of a cross‐slot millifluidic chip. For Reynolds number exceeding 170–200, intermittent high shear stresses applied to each spheroid within the vortex trigger a massive release of biologically active ...

Computational fluid dynamics simulation improves the design and characterization of a plug‐flow‐type scale‐down reactor for microbial cultivation processes

open access: yesBiotechnology Journal, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Graphical Abstract and Lay Summary The heterogenous production conditions in large‐scale bioreactors cause scale‐up problems, such as reduced biomass or product yield, to occur during bioprocesses. In this study, we designed a two‐compartment scale‐down reactor and used it to simulate large‐scale heterogenous production conditions, allowing us to ...
