Shakedown analysis of red mudstone fill material with different water contents
Understanding the shakedown behavior of fill material is paramount to estimate the deformation stability of railway subgrade. Especially for red mudstone fill material (RMF), the noticeable overestimation of bearing capacity would be encountered if the ...

Fatigue Crack Modeling of Railheads Using a Nonlinear Cohesive Zone Model
ABSTRACT Subsurface fatigue crack growth within railheads can be deleterious leading to catastrophic failures in rails. This study aims to model the fatigue crack growth originating at the subsurface level within railheads. Towards that end, a finite element modeling approach is utilized wherein complex crack growth is explicitly modeled using a ...

Elastic shakedown analysis of axisymmetric nozzles
An investigation of the shakedown behavior of axisymmetric nozzles under internal pressure is presented. The analysis is based on elastic-plastic finite element analysis and Melan's lower bound shakedown theorem.

Tracking Active Site Formation during Oxidative Activation of Copper-Exchanged Zeolites for Methane-to-Methanol Conversion. [PDF]
The oxidative generation of Cu(II) active sites in Cu‐exchanged zeolites for the CH4‐to‐CH3OH conversion has been studied. Complementary in situ/operando spectroscopic techniques highlight that the formation rate and the stability of different Cu(II) species are governed by their structure and the zeolite topology.

Self‐Expanding Cardiovascular Stents: Potentials and Challenges of Shape Memory Biomaterials
ABSTRACT Cardiovascular diseases affect a large portion of the global population and remain leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Endovascular stenting, a minimally invasive procedure, enables the insertion and deployment of stents to restore arterial patency without open surgery.

Deformation behavior of K0-consolidated soft clay under traffic load-induced stress paths
Under traffic loads, the magnitudes and directions of the principal stresses applied in the soil elements of soft subgrade change simultaneously. Namely, as the shear stress changes in amplitudes, the principal stress axes continuously rotate.

The Pose‐Independent Haptic Ring (PIHR) delivers four‐directional, joint‐referenced haptic cues using a compact multichannel serpentine SMA array embedded in a soft elastomer. By mapping circumferential normal indentation to a metacarpophalangeal (MCP)‐centered spherical coordinate system, the PIHR preserves consistent spatial meaning under arbitrary ...

This work presents a simulation‐based framework based on representative volume elements (RVEs) that explicitly incorporates process‐induced second‐order residual stresses into the fatigue strength assessment of ductile cast iron (DCI). For the first time, this approach enables a direct evaluation of the influence of second‐order residual stress fields ...
