Multiparameter Logging Evaluation of Chang 73 Shale Oil in the Jiyuan Area, Ordos Basin

open access: yesGeofluids, 2023
The accurate evaluation of shale oil and gas reservoirs is of great significance to the integrated development of geology and engineering. Based on the core analysis, conventional logging, and array acoustic logging data, the total organic carbon ...

Failure characteristics analysis of the inclined interlayer during water‐soluble cavity construction of underground salt caverns for large‐scale energy storage

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In the process of water‐soluble cavern construction of salt cavern energy storage, since the interlayer does not dissolve in water easily, sudden collapse will cause engineering accidents such as bending and damage of the inner tube of the cavern.

Shale Gas and the EU Internal Gas Market: Beyond the Hype and Hysteria. CEPS Working Document No. 369, September 2012 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper analyses the interplay between shale gas and the EU internal gas market. Drawing on data presented in the 2012 International Energy Agency’s report on unconventional gas and additional scenario analyses performed by the Joint Research Centre ...

PORE CONNECTIVITY AND HYDROCARBON STORAGE IN SHALE RESERVOIRS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Considerable advances have been made in the science of shale characterization during the past two decades. However, the evaluation of the production potential of shale reservoirs is still hindered by the lack of understanding of fluid flow and storage ...

Comparative Analysis between CO₂-EOR Mechanisms in Conventional Reservoirs vs. Shale and Tight Reservoirs

open access: yes, 2020
This chapter discusses how the recovery mechanisms of CO2 injection differ between unconventional and conventional reservoirs. A methodology which combines real production data with the outputs of reservoir numerical simulation is introduced to diagnose ...

A comprehensive logging evaluation method for identifying high-quality shale gas reservoirs based on multifractal spectra analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports
Conventional logging interpretation methods qualitatively identify shale reservoirs using shale attribute parameters and interpretation templates. However, improving the identification accuracy of complex shale reservoirs is challenging due to the ...

Frictional properties of shale reservoir rocks [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2013
AbstractWe performed laboratory friction experiments on shale samples from three hydrocarbon reservoirs to assess compositional controls on fault slip behavior accompanying hydraulic stimulation. The samples span a range of clay and total organic content from ~10 to 60% by weight and demonstrate fine‐scale heterogeneity within each reservoir.

Surface hydration‐induced damage in tight oil‐bearing sandy conglomerate reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A series of techniques such as X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, conductivity tests, and infrared thermal imaging were used. The key findings are the identification of a two‐stage surface hydration process and the elucidation of the effects of various minerals and elements on the hydration process ...

The impact of forced closure on proppant distribution of hydraulic fracturing in shale formations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Research findings demonstrate that implementing forced closure within shale formations can remarkably mitigate proppant settlement, concurrently increasing the effective propped surface area from 29.74% to 38.68%. Abstract Forced closure is widely used in conventional oil and gas reservoirs to promote uniform proppant placement.
