The dynamic properties of solutions for a nonlinear shallow water equation
The local well-posedness for the Cauchy problem of a nonlinear shallow water equation is established. The wave-breaking mechanisms, global existence, and infinite propagation speed of solutions to the equation are derived under certain assumptions.

A shallow water equation as a geodesic flow on the Bott-Virasoro group
The Camassa-Holm equation is shown to give rise to a geodesic flow of a certain right invariant metric on the Bott-Virasoro group. The sectional curvature of this metric is computed and shown to assume positive and negative signs.

Breakdown of a shallow water equation [PDF]
The author discusses the following two questions respecting the shallow water equations: 1. When does the shallow water flow breakdown? 2. How does the shallow water equation breakdown? To answer these questions he studies the 1D equation \(\partial v/\partial t+v(\partial v/\partial x)+\partial p/\partial x=0\) with ``pressure'' \(p(x)=(1/2)\int ...

Sufficient conditions of blowup to a shallow water wave equation
The blow-up features of a shallow water wave equation on the line R are investigated. The L2 conservation law is utilized to derive several estimates of solutions for the equation. Sufficient conditions for wave breaking and lifespan of the solutions are
