Active haptic detection and discrimination of shape [PDF]

open access: yesPerception & Psychophysics, 2002
In previous research, we have shown that detection thresholds for Gaussian shapes increase with a power of 1.3 of spatial width. In the present three experiments, we generalized this finding to more complex shapes and to discrimination tasks. In Experiment 1, we found that the slope of the psychometric function for detection (i.e., distinguishing ...

On-line learning of shape information for object segmentation and tracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present segmentation and tracking of deformable objects using non-linear on-line learning of high-level shape information in the form of a level set function.

Fan Shape Model for object detection [PDF]

open access: yes2012 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2012
We propose a novel shape model for object detection called Fan Shape Model (FSM). We model contour sample points as rays of final length emanating for a reference point. As in folding fan, its slats, which we call rays, are very flexible. This flexibility allows FSM to tolerate large shape variance.

A New Method for Haptic Shape Discriminability Detection

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Touch shape discrimination is not only closely related to tactile mechanoreceptors but also higher cognitive function. However, previous shape discrimination methods are difficult to complete in a short time, and the devices are complicated to operate ...

Shape and contour detection

open access: yesVision Research, 1999
Detectability of contours may be affected by long-range interactions between neurons in early stages of visual cortex. Specifically, neurons with receptive fields arrayed along the length of a contour may facilitate each other in a position- and orientation-dependent manner.

Shape-Encoded Functional Hydrogel Pellets for Multiplexed Detection of Pathogenic Bacteria Using a Gas Pressure Sensor

open access: yes, 2022
Gas pressure is a promising signal readout mode in point-of-care testing for its merits such as rapidity, simplicity, affordability, and no need for sophisticated instrumentation.

Object segmentation by fitting statistical shape models : a Kernel-based approach with application to wisdom tooth segmentation from CBCT images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Image segmentation is an important and challenging task in medical image analysis. Especially from low-quality images, segmentation algorithms have to cope with misleading background clutter, insufficient object boundaries and noise in the image ...
