Two way shape memory effect in NiTiHf high temperature shape memory alloy tubes

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2019
Two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) in nano-precipitation hardened, Ni50.3Ti29.7Hf20 high temperature shape memory alloy (HTSMA) thin walled tubes and its thermal stability were investigated. Torsional TWSME was induced by repeated thermal cycling across

Shape memory performance of asymmetrically reinforced epoxy/carbon fibre fabric composites in flexure

open access: yes, 2013
In this study asymmetrically reinforced epoxy (EP)/carbon fibre (CF) fabric composites were prepared and their shape memory properties were quantified in both unconstrained and fully constrained flexural tests performed in a dynamic mechanical analyser ...

The Role of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in Ataxia‐Telangiectasia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ataxia‐telangiectasia (A‐T) is a DNA repair disorder characterized by neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is an established therapy in related disorders such as Fanconi anemia (FA) and Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS), but its role in A‐T is unclear.

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Modeling the butterfly behavior of SMA actuators using neural networks

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mécanique, 2022
Shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators are an important application of smart materials for robotics. However, the nonlinear behavior of SMA leads to difficulties in real-time simulations using numerical methods.

Micromemory effects in shape memory alloys

open access: yesIl Nuovo Cimento D, 1993
Thermoelastic martensitic transformations (TMT) have been on the stage for several years in connection with shape memory alloys. Interest has recently grown in partial cycling or involving the incomplete reverse transformation in a pre-programmable way.

Epoxy/Polycaprolactone Systems with Triple-Shape Memory Effect: Electrospun Nanoweb with and without Graphene Versus Co-Continuous Morphology

open access: yes, 2013
Triple-shape memory epoxy (EP)/polycaprolactone (PCL) systems (PCL content: 23 wt %) with different structures (PCL nanoweb embedded in EP matrix and EP/PCL with co-continuous phase structure) were produced.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A molecular dynamics investigation of the deformation mechanism and shape memory effect of epoxy shape memory polymers

open access: yes, 2016
Following deformation, thermally induced shape memory polymers (SMPs) have the ability to recover their original shape with a change in temperature. In this work, the thermomechanical properties and shape memory behaviors of three types of epoxy SMPs ...
