Dynamic Shape Recognition

1969
The motivation of the dynamic shape recognition scheme which uses a moving slit in front of a frame of imagery is a simple one: in many TV-like displays and recording systems, the frame of imagery is painted line by line, exactly as if the frame was scanned by an optical slit having the width of the line.

Shape-based word recognition

International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition, 1999
We describe a process of word recognition that has high tolerance for poor image quality, tunability to the lexical content of the documents to which it is applied, and high speed of operation. This process relies on the transformation of text images into character shape codes, and on special lexica that contain information on the shape of words.

Parts-based shape recognition via shape geodesics

2015 23rd European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO), 2015
The quality of the segmentation process directly affects the performance of the shape recognition. In this paper, we address the problem of shape recognition using only the available shape parts instead of the whole shape. For this purpose, we propose a shape parts recognition strategy that uses a robust distance based on geodesics in the shape space ...

Robust Occluded Shape Recognition

2006
The primary reason for shape characterization and matching is to use it for characterization and recognition of the associated objects. However, the shapes obtained from segmentation and/or edge detection of real world images are, at best, approximations of the actual shapes of objects. Unsupervised segmentations often deviate from object boundaries to

Fractal recognition of shapes

IEEE EUROCON 2009, 2009
From the beginning of fractals discovery they found a great number of applications. One of those applications is fractal recognition. In this paper we introduce a fractal recognition method which is based on fractal description obtained from fractal image compression. Next, we present simple modification of this method and results of the tests.

Shape based object recognition

2005
This paper examines the problem of shape based object recognition and proposes an approach to it based on certain characteristic planes of an object. It deals with a certain class of 3-D objects and their shapes. A shape distance for such objects is proposed on the basis of which shape discrimination between 3-D objects is possible.
