Nihon Shishubyo Gakkai Kaishi (Journal of the Japanese Society of Periodontology), 1988 歯周治療におけるスケーリングおよびルートプレーニングを効率よく行うためのシャープニングに関する研究の一環として, 著者らは市販の各種砥石の耐摩耗性と研削能率について検討した。ISF, ISM, AS, GCS, CS, WAS320, WAS1000の7種砥石および被研削試料としてステンレススチールを選択し, 両者を著者らが考案した研削用試験機 (シャープニングマシン) に装着して往復運動によるシャープニングを行った。砥石の表面粗さおよび粗さ曲線を耐摩耗性, 被研削試料の摩耗重量を研削能率とし, さらに研削試料の表面粗さを測定し, 以下の結論を得た。1. 砥石の耐摩耗性はISF, ISMがすぐれていた。2.
