Front Tracking for Shear Bands in an Antiplane Shear Model
Journal of Computational Physics, 1997We describe a numerical algorithm for the study of shear band formation and growth in two-dimensional antiplane shear. The constitutive model uses a non-associative flow rule. The numerical scheme is based on a Godunov method for updating the velocity, while the stress is updated via integration along particle paths.

Shears band in the 105Sn nucleus
Zeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and nuclei, 1997The structure of 105Sn has been investigated through the 50Cr(58Ni,2pn) reaction at a beam energy of 210 MeV. In addition to an extension of the spherical level scheme, a regular sequence of dipole transitions has been found. The experimental results are in agreement with the prediction of Tilted Axis Cranking calculations, which satisfactorily explain

Development of adiabatic shear band in cold-rolled titanium
The evolution of adiabatic shear localization in commercial titanium subjected to heavy cold rolling was investigated. The evolution of the morphology, microhardness, local shear strain, and local temperature increments were systematically studied and ...

AbstractLexan polycarbonate specimens in the form of tubes were deformed in torsion. The deformation occurs by the nucleation and growth of discrete shear bands. Shear bands are initially formed at the upper yield point. Development of the bands is accompanied by a drop in the stress to a lower yield point.

On the Stability of Shear Bands
1995Prediction of the onset of localization of the deformation in solids under stress, and, in particular, the initiation of shear bands, is a problem of considerable importance in the context of metal plasticity (see, for example, the review by Rice [1]).

Shear bands appear at limit states of soil bodies. They are analysed as thin zones of localised deformation that takes place as simple (i.e. dilatant) shear. It can be observed, however, that shear bands are discontinuous and also may be “reflected” at rigid boundaries. These phenomena appear as incompatible with the assumed shear deformation.

Shear Banding in an F-Actin Solution
Physical Review Letters, 2012We report herein the first evidence that an F-actin solution shows shear banding, which is characterized by the spontaneous separation of homogeneous shear flow into two macroscopic domains of different definite shear rates. The constant shear stress observed in the F-actin solution is explained by the banded flow with volume fractions that obey the ...
