On reactive shear bands

Physics Letters A, 1986
Abstract One mechanism for ignition of propellants and explosives involves shear banding, in which the healing due to visco-plastic effects combines with the reactive heating to reduce the critical size. To study this process, the analysis of Frank-Kamenetskii is generalized herein to account for mechanical effects (shear).

LARGE SCALE SHEAR BANDING IN EXTENSION

2011
In this paper, we will explore the role of non-coaxiality on shear banding in pure shear. We first outline the consitituve relations. The deformation and localization process is illustrated by results of large deformation finite element simulations on a rectangular domain in extension for different constitutive models. We also show the variation of the

Compactive shear bands

2020
High-porosity arkose sandstones of Loiano (LS; Northern Apennines, Italy) are medium to coarse-grained and composed by quartz, feldspar, rock fragments, a few carbonate clasts, and minor accessories. LS are an example of structural-controlled diagenesis, because of the presence of calcite-cement nodules associated to the deformation bands (DBs).

On the Shear Bands and Shear Localizations in EHL Films

ASME/STLE 2004 International Joint Tribology Conference, Parts A and B, 2004
Liquid lubricants in elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) are subjected to high pressures of the magnitude of 109 N/m2 (GPa). Under these high pressures, the lubricants in room temperatures are usually in the glassy state behaving as amorphous solids.

Multiple Shear Banding in Granular Materials

2013
We present numerical and experimental evidences for multiple shear band formation in sheared granular materials. A modified Couette cell with a split bottom near the outer cylinder is made rough by gluing glass beads on all boundaries. The cell is filled with the same beads and sheared by slowly rotating the inner cylinder and the attached bottom disk.
