Hidden spatiotemporal sequence in transition to shear band in amorphous solids
Localization of plastic flow into a narrow shear band is a fundamental and ubiquitous nonequilibrium phenomenon in amorphous solids. Because of the intrinsic entangling of three types of elementary local atomic motion—shear, dilatation, and rotation—the ...

Multiscale analyses of failure pattern transition in high-porosity sandstones
High-porosity sandstones are important host rocks for hydrocarbon and groundwater reservoirs. It is of significance to investigate their failure pattern transitions under different loading conditions.

Minimal dissipation theory and shear bands in biaxial tests
True biaxial tests of granular materials are investigated by applying the principle of minimal dissipation and comparing to two dimensional contact dynamics simulations.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Phonon band structures of three-dimensional pentamode metamaterials
Three-dimensional pentamode metamaterials are artificial solids that approximately behave like liquids, which have vanishing shear modulus. Pentamodes have recently become experimental reality.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

The primary influence of shear band evolution on the slope bearing capacity
Slope bearing capacity is one of the most important characteristics in slope engineering and is strongly influenced by weak planes, loading conditions, and slope geometry.

Shear band formation in granular media as a variational problem
Strain in sheared dense granular material is often localized in a narrow region called shear band. Recent experiments in a modified Couette cell provided localized shear flow in the bulk away from the confining walls.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Grain-subdivision-dominated microstructure evolution in shear bands at high rates
Shear banding is an important deformation and failure mechanism in metallic systems, especially at high-rate straining. Dynamic recrystallization was often reported to account for the refined microstructure of shear bands but rarely confirmed using ...
