Mechanical Properties of Frozen Glacial Tills due to Short Periods of Thawing
Due to the warming climate, glacier retreat has left massive glacial tills in steep gullies; ice in the soil is prone to change phase resulting in the decrease of the ice strength and bonding of soil particles; collapse of thawing tills can lead to ...

Experimental study of high temperature on the shear properties of early-age concrete
Fire accidents happen randomly which may occur in the construction of concrete buildings. In this study, the effects of high temperature and curing ages on shear properties of early-age concrete were experimentally studied.

Influence of Morphology Characteristics on Shear Mechanical Properties of Sawtooth Joints
The interface problem exists widely in building. Joints are interfaces of rock mass structures. To further study the influence of morphological characteristics on the shear mechanical properties of sawtooth joints, this paper prepared rock-like materials

Numerical Modeling of Concrete Deep Beams Made with Recycled Aggregates and Steel Fibers
A bilinear tensile softening law that can describe the post-cracking behavior of concrete made with recycled concrete aggregates (RCAs) and steel fibers was developed based on an inverse analysis of characterization test data. Numerical simulation models

Shearing behavior of polydisperse media [PDF]
We study the shearing of polydisperse and bidisperse media with a size ratio of 10. Simulations are performed with a the two dimensional shear cell using contact dynamics. With a truncated power law for the polydisperse media we find that they show a stronger dilatancy and greater resistance to shearing than bidisperse mixtures.
