Shear Capacity of Hybrid Plate Girders

Journal of Bridge Engineering, 2007
The AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, in versions up to and including the 2003 interim, limit the shear resistance of hybrid steel I-girders to the shear buckling or shear yield load and prevent consideration of the additional capacity due to tension field action, which homogeneous girders are allowed to include.

Tests on Shear Capacity of Reinforced Concrete

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1995
The purpose of this research is to contribute to the definition of maximum carrying capacity and rational reinforcement schemes for structures such as deep beams, corbels, and dapped-end beams. The research included laboratory testing of 28 prismatic beam samples with a higher percentage of steel than currently permitted in design practice.

Evaluating Shear Capacity of Concrete Girders with Deficient Shear Reinforcement

2010
This study assesses the suitability of four sectional shear methods for predicting the shear capacity of reinforced concrete members which do not comply with S6-06 Section 14 stirrup spacing and area requirements. The results of the evaluations indicate that the sectional shear provisions in S6-06, AASHTO LRFD-05 and software Response 2000 ...

Shear-Capacity in Adhesive Glass Joints

2012
The shear-capacity of adhesive glass-joints was investigated. Various stiff and soft adhesives were tested in a short-term load-case. The tests were conducted with small specimens in order to achieve a homogenous state of stress. The results of the tests were used in order to determine the material models of the adhesives.

Shear Capacity of Lightweight Concrete Beams

ACI Journal Proceedings, 1967
TWENTY-SIX LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE BEAMS WERE TESTED TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE SHEAR CAPACITY OF STRUCTURAL LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE AND TO EVALUATE THE 1963 ACI BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS FOR SHEAR. THE BEAMS TESTED IN THIS PROGRAM ARE COMPARED WITH THE PRESENT SHEAR DESIGN FORMULAS AND WITH OTHER DESIGN APPROACHES THAT ARE BEING CONSIDERED AS

Reliability of column capacity design in shear

Computers & concrete, 2012
The capacity design of shear forces is one of the special demands of EC8 by which the ductile behavior of structures is implemented. The aim of capacity design is the formation of plastic hinges without shear failure of the elements. This is achieved by deriving the design shear forces from equilibrium conditions, assuming that plastic hinges, with ...

Shear capacity of ferrocement plates in flexure

Engineering Structures, 2011
Abstract An experimental study on 18 simply supported ferrocement plates having a span/depth ratio of 2.0 was conducted. Various wire mesh types were used as web reinforcement. Flexural steel was designed to preclude failure in modes other than flexure.

Improvement of shear capacity of composite structures

International Journal of Offshore and Polar Engineering, 1991
Many kinds of Arctic structures have been built during the past two decades to exploit the resources of the ice-infested waters of the Arctic region. The exterior walls of such offshore structures must be designed to resist the high external loads exerted by the moving ice floes and icebergs.

The dynamic shear capacity of concrete structures

Structural Concrete, 2007
For shear capacity, the current design procedure used for concrete structures has been found to be inaccurate for some dynamic design load cases.
