Sliding Shear Failure of Basement-Clamped Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls. [PDF]
After an earthquake struck Chile in 1985, sliding shear failure was observed in the clamping zone of stabilising walls. Even houses with only four storeys can fail due to sliding shear below basement ceilings. This type of failure has received little attention in the past; however, it leads to premature failure of the clamping effect in the basement ...

A mechanism of failure in shear bands [PDF]
We have carried out dilatant plasticity simulations to investigate the process of failure inside a shear band. The constitutive model accounts for possibly inhomogeneous flow within the band, void rotation and void elongation. We found that the material in the band may soften with no increase in the void volume fraction.

Prediction and Verification of Forming Limit Diagrams Based on a Modified Shear Failure Criterion
The forming limit diagram plays an important role in predicting the forming limit of sheet metals. Previous studies have shown that, the method to construct the forming limit diagram based on instability theory of the original shear failure criterion is ...

Unlike normal-pressure gas wells, wellbore instability is more likely to occur during testing for high-pressure gas wells. Gas acceleration effect exists in gas flow during high-pressure gas well testing, which was ignored in previous wellbore ...

Glass fiber reinforced ultra-high strength concrete with silica fume
Conventional glass fiber-reinforced concrete (GFRC) has wide applications in high-rise buildings, bridges, and renovation works. In this study, ultra-high-strength glass fiber reinforced concrete (UHS-GFRC) mixtures were developed to minimize the size of
