Sliding Shear Failure of Basement-Clamped Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel)
After an earthquake struck Chile in 1985, sliding shear failure was observed in the clamping zone of stabilising walls. Even houses with only four storeys can fail due to sliding shear below basement ceilings. This type of failure has received little attention in the past; however, it leads to premature failure of the clamping effect in the basement ...

Study on shear behavior of high-performance polypropylene fiber-reinforced lightweight aggregate concrete beams

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2022
The effects of high-performance polypropylene fiber (HPPF) content, shear span to depth ratio, and stirrup ratio on the shear behavior of lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) beams were studied according to shear tests on eleven high-performance ...

A mechanism of failure in shear bands [PDF]

open access: yesExtreme Mechanics Letters, 2018
We have carried out dilatant plasticity simulations to investigate the process of failure inside a shear band. The constitutive model accounts for possibly inhomogeneous flow within the band, void rotation and void elongation. We found that the material in the band may soften with no increase in the void volume fraction.

Prediction and Verification of Forming Limit Diagrams Based on a Modified Shear Failure Criterion

open access: yesChinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2023
The forming limit diagram plays an important role in predicting the forming limit of sheet metals. Previous studies have shown that, the method to construct the forming limit diagram based on instability theory of the original shear failure criterion is ...

Experimental study on oblique-shear performance of splicing joint for precast ultrahigh-performance concrete segmental bridges

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2023
This paper aims to study the effect of the normal stress on the shear performance of splicing joints for precast ultrahigh-performance concrete (UHPC) segmental bridges (PUSBs), an oblique-shear joint is designed to decompose the vertical force into a ...

Failure analysis around oriented boreholes using an analytical model in different faulting stress regimes

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2023
One of the most important instabilities that may occur in a borehole is shear instability caused by high compressive stress in the borehole wall. The initial estimation of the width and depth of the failure zone around the borehole is very important in ...

Analysis of influencing factors on wellbore instability for high-pressure gas well during testing and production

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Unlike normal-pressure gas wells, wellbore instability is more likely to occur during testing for high-pressure gas wells. Gas acceleration effect exists in gas flow during high-pressure gas well testing, which was ignored in previous wellbore ...

Glass fiber reinforced ultra-high strength concrete with silica fume

open access: yesGrađevinar, 2022
Conventional glass fiber-reinforced concrete (GFRC) has wide applications in high-rise buildings, bridges, and renovation works. In this study, ultra-high-strength glass fiber reinforced concrete (UHS-GFRC) mixtures were developed to minimize the size of
