Modal Analysis of Vortex-Induced Vibration of Marine Risers Under Dual-Flow Conditions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Marine risers are susceptible to vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) in complex ocean current environments, posing significant risks to structural safety and fatigue life. This study, conducted on the Ansys Workbench platform, establishes a three-dimensional

Shear Stress Induced by an Interstitial Level of Slow Flow Increases the Osteogenic Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells through TAZ Activation

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Shear stress activates cellular signaling involved in cellular proliferation, differentiation, and migration. However, the mechanisms of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) differentiation under interstitial flow are not fully understood.

Shear flow-interchange instability in nightside magnetotail causes auroral beads as a signature of substorm onset

open access: yes, 2019
A geometric wedge model of the near-earth nightside plasma sheet is used to derive a wave equation for low frequency shear flow-interchange waves which transmit $\vec{E} \times \vec{B}$ sheared zonal flows along magnetic flux tubes towards the ionosphere.

Curved Nanographene–Graphite Hybrid Anodes with Sequential Li+ Insertion for Fast‐Charging and Long‐Life Li‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid anode composed of Cl‐functionalized curved nanographene and graphite enables ultra‐fast charging and long cycle life through an engineered morphology and sequential Li+ insertion. It delivers 100 mAh g−1 at 5 C with 70% capacity retention after 1000 cycles and maintains stable performance over 2000 cycles in pouch cells, providing a practical ...

Crystal Growth in Fluid Flow: Nonlinear Response Effects

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate crystal-growth kinetics in the presence of strong shear flow in the liquid, using molecular-dynamics simulations of a binary-alloy model. Close to the equilibrium melting point, shear flow always suppresses the growth of the crystal-liquid

Light‐Responsive Enzyme‐Loaded Nanoparticles for Tunable Adhesion and Mechanical Wound Contraction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a photoactivatable enzyme‐loaded mesoporous nanoparticle system (MPDA_PaTy) that enables light‐triggered tunable tissue adhesion and facilitates mechanical wound contraction. Controlled enzymatic crosslinking at tissue or hydrogel interfaces allows on‐demand adhesion.

Effect of shear flow on optical anisotropic film of chromonic liquid crystal

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The effect of shear flow on an optical anisotropic film of chromonic liquid crystal by use of applicator was investigated. Some chromonic dyes form a rod like aggregation in an aqueous solution and change to a chromonic liquid crystal in a certain ...

Do solids flow?

open access: yes, 2010
Are solids intrinsically different from liquids? Must a finite stress be applied in order to induce flow? Or, instead, do all solids only look rigid on some finite timescales and eventually flow if an infinitesimal shear stress is applied?

A Smart Bio‐Battery Facilitates Diabetic Bone Defect Repair Via Inducing Macrophage Reprogramming and Synergistically Modulating Bone Remodeling Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research presents a novel implantable bio‐battery, GF‐OsG, tailored for diabetic bone repair. GF‐OsG generates microcurrents in high‐glucose conditions to enhance vascularization, shift macrophages to the M2 phenotype, and regulate immune responses.

Study of emulsification mechanism and droplet size estimation in a homogenizer

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
A pressure type homogenizer consists of a plunger pump, and a valve part with a narrow channel. It generates effects such as a shear, a turbulent flow and a cavitation between fluid molecules at very short time, and makes a homogeneous emulsification ...
