Lab‐Scale Fabrication Process Selection for Soft Robotics: Benchmarking, Tradeoffs, and Guidelines for Formative Manufacturing of Soft Silicone Components

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Fabrication shapes soft robot performance, but benchmarking data and selection guidelines remain scarce. We fabricate silicone actuators using two molding techniques and three mold types, characterizing them with cycle testing, microscopy, profilometry, and 3D imaging. Applying our lab‐scale, soft robotics‐specific fabrication evaluation criteria shows

Vision‐Based Tactile Finger Integrating Fingerpad and Nail Sensing for Robotic Manipulation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This vision‐based tactile finger captures nail force and fingerpad force, contact position, and in‐plane orientation with one internal camera. An external camera recognizes the target and presets finger inclination from object height. The compact dual‐sensing design supports tactile‐guided table contact and reliable grasping of objects ranging from ...

Accelerating Musculoskeletal Robotics Through Parametric Design and 3D‐Printed Flexible Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Parametric design and flexible 3D printing create muscle‐, tendon‐, ligament‐, and cushion‐like robotic elements from a single thermoplastic polyurethane material. Tuning lattice patterns adjusts regional mechanical properties and enables coordinated multijoint motions in a life‐sized musculoskeletal leg under external suspension, with partial body ...
