Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Virtual testing of post-buckling behaviour of metallic stiffened panel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of the project presented in this thesis is to demonstrate a modelling method for predicting the variability in the ultimate load of stiffened panel under axial compression due to manufacturing variability.

Effect of Cell Geometry on the Shear Modulus and on Density of Sandwich Panel Cores

open access: yes, 1961
A simple analytic theory for the effect of cell geometry on both the shear modulus and the density of sandwich panel core is presented. The core shear modulus in different directions is analyzed to include the effects of the angle α and the aspect ratio ...

On the mechanisms of modal damping in FRP/honeycomb sandwich panels

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2018
Sandwich panels made of fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) skins and a honeycomb core can be effectively damped through the choice of the skin and especially of the core materials.

Design Strategies and Emerging Applications of High‐Performance Flexible Piezoresistive Pressure Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flexible piezoresistive pressure sensors underpin wearable and soft electronics. This review links sensing physics, including contact resistance modulation, quantum tunneling and percolation, to unified materials/structure design. We highlight composite and graded architectures, interfacial/porous engineering, and microstructured 3D conductive networks

Vibration Analysis of Cylindrical Sandwich Aluminum Shell with Viscoelastic Damping Treatment

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2013
This paper has applied the constrained viscoelastic layer damping treatments to a cylindrical aluminum shell using layerwise displacement theory. The transverse shear, the normal strains, and the curved geometry are exactly taken into account in the ...
