Strength of Plate Girders in Shear

Journal of the Structural Division, 1961
A study of the shear strength of plate girders is presented. In utilizing the postbuckling strength offered by the transverse stiffening of girders, new design rules are proposed. The new approach is checked with ultimate load tests carried out at Fritz Engineering Laboratory.

Large Shear Plate Interferometer

Journal of Optics, 2003
The design and fabrication of a large shear plate is presented to obtain a large shear. The shear plate consists of two glass plates separated with a large air gap. The two glass plates are held rigidly with three spacer rods. The inner surfaces of the glass plates are made nearly parallel to each other.

On the Buckling of Oblique Plates in Shear

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1956
If a thin oblique plate (i.e. in the shape of a parallelogram) is subjected to a uniform shear stress parallel and perpendicular to two of the sides, the critical value of the stress depends on the direction in which it is applied. The higher critical value is obtained when the shear is tending to decrease the obliquity of the plate.

Curvilinearly Corrugated Plates in Shear

Journal of the Structural Division, 1975
Theoretical numerical data are presented for: (1) The in-plane shear stiffness of corrugated plates with discrete attachments to framing members at the ends of the corrugations; and (2) the maximum transverse flexural strains due to the cross-sectional deformations that accompany the shearing of such plates. The corrugation cross section is curvilinear

Rotating Shearing Plate Interferometer

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
The rotatable shearing plate interferometer provides a fast and simple manual method of measuring defocus, astigmatism and coma in a collimated laser beam. The shearing plate is mounted at a 45 degree angle relative to the incident beam. The plate in its housing is rotated about the axis of the incident beam.

Thick Plates in Bending and Shear

2009
A plate subjected to a load perpendicular to its plane is in a state of bending and transverse shear. If the plate is of concrete, it is called a slab. Plates are generalizations of beams. A beam spans one direction, but a plate is able to carry loads in two directions. Figure 3.1 shows an example of a plate on four supports under a point load Fz.

Shear Deformable Plate Elements

2020
This chapter starts with the analytical description of thick plate members. Thick plates are plates where the contribution of the shear force on the deformations is considered. Based on the three basic equations of continuum mechanics, i.e., the kinematics relationship, the constitutive law, and the equilibrium equation, the partial differential ...

Shear Strength of Continuous Plates

Journal of the Structural Division, 1972
Results of punching shear test of 15 reinforced concrete specimens of a new type of test specimen that simulates continuous two-way construction are reported. Conclusions for these tests are that: (1) Circular columns permit development of higher shear strength than square columns of equal periphery; (2) increasing moment reinforcing results in slight ...

Shearing displacement of a rectangular plate

Mathematical Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, 1949
A solution is given of a problem already solved by Inglis, a rectangular plate stressed by the uniform longitudinal relative displacement of two opposite edges, the other pair of sides remaining free. The method used here yields a more accurate solution with greater rapidity than did the previous paper.
