Shear Strength of Clay at Different Shear Rates [PDF]
AbstractA test procedure that involved shearing soil specimens at different shear rates was proposed to study the effect of shear rate on the strength recovery of three natural clays. The obtained results indicated that an increase in shear strength occurred when the shear rate decreased.

Shear Rate and Permeability in Water Flooding [PDF]
Water breakthrough during oil recovery can be inhibited by the use of novel shear-induced structure additives. These affect the shear rate experienced by fluid inside the rock matrix. We relate this to the permeability for the purpose of applying these novel non-Newtonian materials which thicken viscosity only in the shear range associated with the ...

Aging under Shear: Structural Relaxation of a Non-Newtonian Fluid [PDF]
The influence of an applied shear field on the dynamics of an aging colloidal suspension has been investigated by the dynamic light scattering determination of the density autocorrelation function.

Irreversibility and rate dependence in sheared adhesive suspensions [PDF]
Recent experiments report that slowly-sheared noncolloidal particle suspensions can exhibit unexpected rate($ $)-dependent complex viscosities in oscillatory shear, despite a constant relative viscosity in steady shear. Using a minimal hydrodynamic model, we show that a weak interparticle attraction reproduces this behavior. At volume fractions $ =20\

Red blood cells (RBCs) are the most abundant cells in human blood. Remarkably RBCs deform and bridge together to form aggregates under very low shear rates. The theory and mechanics behind aggregation are, however, not yet completely understood. The main

Molecular dynamics simulations of oscillatory Couette flows with slip boundary conditions [PDF]
The effect of interfacial slip on steady-state and time-periodic flows of monatomic liquids is investigated using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations.

Increase in mean shear stress represents an important and potent hemodynamic stimulus to improve conduit artery endothelial function in humans. No previous study has examined whether fluctuations in shear rate patterns, without altering mean shear stress,

Shear Rate‐Dependent Disequilibrium Rheology and Dynamics of Basalt Solidification
Magmas and lavas undergo a range of shear rates during transport and emplacement. Further, transport of magma and lava occurs at subliquidus conditions where the melt crystallizes at varying temperature, pressure, and oxygen fugacity.

Rheology and ultrasonic properties of Pt57.5Ni5.3Cu14.7P22.5 liquid [PDF]
The equilibrium and nonequilibrium viscosity and isoconfigurational shear modulus of Pt57.5Ni5.3Cu14.7P22.5 supercooled liquid are evaluated using continuous–strain-rate compression experiments and ultrasonic measurements. By means of a thermodynamically-

Suspensions of cellulose micro- and nanofibrils are widely used in coatings, fibre spinning, 3D printing and as rheology modifiers where they are frequently exposed to shear rates > 104 s−1, often within small confinements.
