Investigations on the Shear Mechanism of Steel-Tube-Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls with a Low Shear-Span Ratio

open access: yesKSCE Journal of Civil Engineering, 2019
This paper describes the study of steel tube reinforced concrete (STRC) shear walls with a low shear-span ratio, in which steel tubes are embedded in the web of the shear wall. The addition of these steel tubes can significantly improve the shear behavior of ordinary RC shear walls. A series of cyclic loading tests allow us to examine the failure mode,

Nonlinear finite element modelling and parametric study of CFRP shear-strengthened prestressed concrete girders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper presents a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element (FE) model for prestressed concrete girders strengthened in shear with externally bonded carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) reinforcement. A total strain rotating crack model, where the

Fluoride‐Free Adhesives for Low Surface Energy Fluorinated Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A universal, fluoride‐free adhesive achieves a record 4.91 MPa bond strength on PTFE by leveraging amine/amide dipole–dipole interactions, without fluorinated components. This sustainable strategy overcomes the environmental and performance limits of PFAS‐based adhesives, enabling robust, eco‐conscious bonding across diverse materials.

K\"ahler metrics via Lorentzian Geometry in dimension four

open access: yes, 2019
Given a semi-Riemannian $4$-manifold $(M,g)$ with two distinguished vector fields satisfying properties determined by their shear, twist and various Lie bracket relations, a family of K\"ahler metrics $g_K$ is constructed, defined on an open set in $M ...

Comparison of punching shear requirements in BS 8110, EC2 and MC2010 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper compares design provisions for punching shear at internal columns in the superseded British Standard BS 8110, Eurocode 2 (EC2) and fib Model Code 2010 (MC2010).

Encoding Magnetic Anisotropies in Digital Light Processing 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid magnetic device—combining a coaxial coil within a nested Halbach array—is presented, integrated into a DLP 3D printer to enable spatially resolved magnetic field control. This system enables complex, multimodal responses by programming liquid crystal elastomer resins for magnetic and thermal actuation, and by inducing electrically conductive ...

Modulating Interfacial Potential Gradients in Metal−Carbon Catalysts via Phase‐Engineering for Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is elucidated that phase engineering of cobalt modulates the interfacial potential gradients of cobalt–carbon electrocatalysts, enhancing the intrinsic electrocatalytic performance. Modulating the dominant crystalline phase of cobalt from a hexagonal close‐packed to a face‐centered cubic enriches the electron density of carbon shells, thereby ...

On sixfold coupled buckling of thin-walled composite beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A general analytical model based on shear-deformable beam theory has been developed to study the flexural–torsional coupled buckling of thin-walled composite beams with arbitrary lay-ups under axial load.

Experimental and theoretical study on the shear behavior of single‐ and multi‐span T‐ and I‐shaped post‐tensioned beams

open access: yesStructural Concrete, 2019
In recent years, the assessment of the shear resistance of existing post‐tensioned multispan bridges has become a frequent task for civil engineers. New models developed for this purpose need to be verified, since the number of shear‐related results of ...

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...
