Hysteresis Behavior of RC Beam–Column Joints of Existing Substandard RC Structures Subjected to Seismic Loading–Experimental and Analytical Investigation

open access: yesBuildings
Four exterior reinforced concrete beam–column joint subassemblages with poor reinforcement details and low-quality materials were constructed and subjected to cyclic lateral deformations under constant axial loading of the columns.

Three dimensionality in the wake of the flow around a circular cylinder at Reynolds number 5000 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The turbulent flow around a circular cylinder has been investigated at Re=5000Re=5000 using direct numerical simulations. Low frequency behavior, vortex undulation, vortex splitting, vortex dislocations and three dimensional flow within the wake were ...

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.

Shear Behaviour of RC Beams Strengthened by Various Ultrahigh Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete Systems

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
This study presents a numerical investigation on the shear behaviour of shear-strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams by using various ultrahigh performance fibre-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) systems.

Cross-correlation cosmic shear with the SDSS and VLA FIRST surveys

open access: yes, 2015
We measure the cosmic shear power spectrum on large angular scales by cross-correlating the shapes of ~9 million galaxies measured in the optical SDSS survey with the shapes of ~2.7x10^5 radio galaxies measured by the overlapping VLA-FIRST survey.

An improved closed-form solution to interfacial stresses in plated beams using a two-stage approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The shear stress and the normal stresses in the thickness direction at interfaces (referred as interfacial shear and transverse normal stresses hereafter) have played a significant role in understanding the premature debonding failure of beams ...

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

Cyclic behavior of a two-span RC beam built with plain reinforcing bars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Reinforced concrete structural elements lacking appropriate seismic detailing and built with plain reinforcing bars, and subjected to cyclic loads like the ones induced by earthquakes, are particularly sensitive to the bond-slip mechanism.

Effect of shear span-to-depth ratio on the shear behavior of BFRP-RC deep beams

open access: yes, 2017
This study investigates the shear behavior of deep concrete beams reinforced with basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars for flexure without web reinforcements.

Miniature Nanomesh Mechano‐Acoustic Sensor with Wide Linear Dynamic Range, Broad Bandwidth, and Flat Frequency Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A miniaturized mechano‐acoustic sensor is developed using an electrospun PVDF nanomesh as the diaphragm in a capacitive sensor structure. Unlike conventional nanomesh‐based sensors, it achieves high linear sensitivity, a broad and flat frequency response, and a compact form factor.
