Influence of Processing and Storage on the Shear Thickening Properties of Highly Concentrated Monodisperse Silica Particles in Polyethylene Glycol

open access: yesApplied Rheology, 2013
The shear thickening behavior of concentrated suspensions can be exploited to dissipate energy during impact or shear loading. To preserve the consistency of the thickening behavior in practical applications, particle concentration, and dispersion should

Viscoelastic properties of MR shear thickening fluids

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2014
Magento-rheological Fluid (MRF) and Shear Thickening Fluid (STF) have separately attracted considerable interest due to their fast and reversible response to an external magnetic field or an abrupt shearing loading. In this paper we fabricated a combined

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

Mechanical Properties of Architected Polymer Lattice Materials: A Comparative Study of Additive Manufacturing and CAD Using FEM and µ‐CT

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how pore shape and manufacturing‐induced deviations affect the mechanical properties of 3D‐printed lattice materials with constant porosity. Combining µ‐CT analysis, FEM, and compression testing, the authors show that structural imperfections reduce stiffness and strength, while bulk material inhomogeneities probably enhance ...

Fluid Flow Modeling and Experimental Investigation on a Shear Thickening Fluid Damper

open access: yesBuildings
Shear Thickening Fluid (STF) is a specialized high-concentration particle suspension capable of rapidly and reversibly altering its viscosity when exposed to sudden impacts.

Pairwise frictional profile between particles determines discontinuous shear thickening transition in non-colloidal suspensions

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Shear thickening characterizes liquid suspensions of particles that reversibly solidify subject to stress. Here, Comtetet al. show that shear thickening occurs at the transition from lubricated contacts to frictional contacts at a single-particle level ...

A Smart Bio‐Battery Facilitates Diabetic Bone Defect Repair Via Inducing Macrophage Reprogramming and Synergistically Modulating Bone Remodeling Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research presents a novel implantable bio‐battery, GF‐OsG, tailored for diabetic bone repair. GF‐OsG generates microcurrents in high‐glucose conditions to enhance vascularization, shift macrophages to the M2 phenotype, and regulate immune responses.

Non-linear rheology of active particle suspensions: Insights from an analytical approach

open access: yes, 2010
We consider active suspensions in the isotropic phase subjected to a shear flow. Using a set of extended hydrodynamic equations we derive a variety of {\em analytical} expressions for rheological quantities such as shear viscosity and normal stress ...

Two‐Dimensional Materials as a Multiproperty Sensing Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Various sensing modalities enabled and/or enhanced by two‐dimensional (2D) materials are reviewed. The domains considered for sensing include: 1) optoelectronics, 2) quantum defects, 3) scanning probe microscopy, 4) nanomechanics, and 5) bio‐ and chemosensing.
