Natural variation in the atypical resistance gene Ptr confers broad‐spectrum neck blast resistance in rice

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Neck blast (NB), caused by Magnaporthe oryzae, infects rice (Oryza sativa L.) and reduces yield. Knowledge of NB resistance remains limited due to the lack of reliable resistance evaluation methods. Here, we applied a newly established neck injection method and performed a genome‐wide association study (GWAS) on 335 diverse accessions from the

Ekstrak Tanaman Binahong sebagai Pengendali Penyakit Hawar Pelepah Daun Padi

open access: yesJurnal Fitopatologi Indonesia, 2018
Binahong Extract for Controlling Sheath Blight Disease of Rice Paddy Sheath blight disease, caused by Rhizoctonia solani, is an important disease that can affect rice production. The disease is commonly controlled using synthetic fungicides.

Biological Control Activities of Rice-Associated Bacillus sp. Strains against Sheath Blight and Bacterial Panicle Blight of Rice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Potential biological control agents for two major rice diseases, sheath blight and bacterial panicle blight, were isolated from rice plants in this study.

Mining rare haplotypes to accelerate precision breeding in rice

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Rice (Oryza sativa L.) genomics has made significant progress, with over 13000 genome sequences available and more than 4500 genes functionally characterized. However, limited haplotype‐level information has constrained the effective deployment of these genes in breeding programs.

Control of Fire Blight with a Lysozyme from the Erwinia amylovora Phage ɸEa1h

open access: yes, 2006
A lysozyme gene from Erwinia amylovora phage Ea1h was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli, and the protein activity compared with lysozyme from E. coli phage T4. Ea1h lysozyme lysates strongly affected E. amylovora cells.

Biological Control of Rhizoctonia solani AG1-1A, the Causal Agent of Rice Sheath Blight with Trichoderma Strains

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2011
Sheath blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani is one of the most serious rice diseases worldwide. The disease is currently managed only by the excessive application of chemical fungicides which are toxic and not environmentally friendly.

History of near‐isogenic lines carrying genes for resistance to bacterial blight and blast in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Bacterial blight and blast, caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae and Magnaporthe oryzae, respectively, are the two most devastating diseases of rice (Oryza sativa L.). Although the diseases were first documented in the 17th–19th centuries, systematic research on their pathology and host resistance began in the early 20th century and was ...

Pyramiding transgenes for multiple resistance in rice against bacterial blight, yellow stem borer and sheath blight

open access: yes, 2002
Here we describe the development of transgene-pyramided stable elite rice lines resistant to disease and insect pests by conventional crossing of two transgenic parental lines transformed independently with different genes.

Rapid Screening of Bacterial Chemoeffectors of Pseudomonas parafulva Using a CheA ATPase Activity‐Based Assay

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 9, September 2026.
We present a scalable, cell‐free, and straightforward NADH‐coupled CheA ATPase assay for quickly screening potential bacterial chemoeffectors and integrate it into a pipeline to identify both the chemoeffectors and their corresponding chemoreceptors in Pseudomonas parafulva, enabling systematic exploration of chemotactic sensing.

Coniferyl aldehyde from the phenylpropanoid pathway targets pyruvate kinase in Dactylobotrys graminicola to confer sheath rot resistance in hulless barley

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 68, Issue 9, Page 3490-3507, September 2026.
Hulless barley resists the newly identified sheath rot disease caused by the necrotrophic fungal pathogen Dactylobotrys graminicola by releasing coniferyl aldehyde, a natural compound that disrupts energy production in the fungus. ABSTRACT Dactylobotrys graminicola (Dgr), a necrotrophic fungal pathogen, has recently been identified as the causative ...
